Exactly. iPod accessories are the single biggest ripoff know to man-kind. The sad part is that there’s still suckers that buy them.
They are priced expensive because that’s what enough people are willing to pay. Competitors often charge less for their product, but often they are made of lower quality materials or construction techniques. If people stopped buying the overpriced accessories Apple would be forced to cut their prices to entice people to purchase them. Ah, the wonders of the free market.
Oh, and aanuszek1, in my mind the biggest consumer ripoff is Monster Cables, which have been proven to be of no better quality than not only average cables, but a plain old wire hanger.
evrryone should all go on strike from apple then that greedy company will have to lower their prices, that would be awesome…
That would be pretty hard to accomplish – the minute Apple dropped their prices one tiny bit, everyone would cave and buy stuff.
What’s a bit more possible to happen is for another company to start making high quality iPod Touch cases, and selling them at a lower price than Apple does. That might cause Apple to lower their prices. But you’ll still have people who prefer the brand of Apple over a third party brand and who are willing to pay.
It’s one of the reasons why the iPod is so popular compared to the Zune – people don’t just want a music player, they want the trendy cool music player that their friends have.
I like their products, quality and customer service. But, you are right. Expensive.
i would never want a zune, i love the look of the apple products, they are so sharp, innovative, and clean looking and ive never had any problems with my itouch:)
I had the joy of playing around with one yesterday, and I really love it. It’s exactly the portable internet device I’ve been wanting. And I was quite pleased with how it connected to my Wifi in terms of the browsing speed, which was the one thing I wanted to test. It’s on my Christmas list this year for sure!

Everyone’s always ripping on Monster cables, but I swear I’ve never had a guitar cable as durable as my Monsters. I’ve never had another last as long as they have, and they show no signs of quitting any time soon. Sure they cost twice as much, but they’ve already lasted well more than twice as long as any other cable I’ve had. There’s also the little added bonus that they’re wrapped properly in the packaging, unlike so many other guitar cables that have to be trained before they’re usable.
I’ve always had good success with Monster brand.
