How do I change a default viewer?
My computer opens documents with microsoft office but now I want it to open them with open office. How do i change it? And is there any reason for me NOT to uninstall all the microsoft office stuff, since I have NO intention of using it again?

There really is no reason to keep Microsoft Office installed especially since it was a trial version (if I remember correctly) and you won’t ever use it.
I can’t remember off the top of my head how to change the default program that opens files in Windows, as I am on my Mac, but it can be done, and I’m sure someone will tell you how.
Right click on a .Doc file. Under the ‘General’ tab you’ll see a Opens with: Microsoft Office. There will be a {Change} button next to it. Click this and a list of eligiable programs will be opened. If Open Office is not there go “Browse” and find the Open Office .exe in your program files.
This is in XP yet Vista is basically the same. There might be one or two differences. If you have any trouble just say here.
Well, I uninstalled Microsoft, but now when I try to open the file in my e-mail is says “This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Association control panel.”
I have no idea how to do that, and I’ve been looking…
I found it!!! Thanks guys!!!
“If you did not set this option during the installation of OpenOffice.org, right-click on a .doc, a .xls or a .ppt file and choose Open with… from the menu that appears. A new window will open that asks you to choose a program to open that file type. Select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box and click on OK.
If this does not work, go to Settings > Add or Remove Programs. Scroll down to OpenOffice.org and click on Change. Follow the Installation Wizard untill it asks you to select the file types for which you want OpenOffice.org to be the default application.”

Edit – oh nevermind. just read your “found it” quip.
