Brits, Irish, Aussies, Kiwis: What American sitcoms air where you are?

Asked by AstroChuck (37666points) December 16th, 2008

Which current situation comedies are popular now?
How I Met Your Mother, Two & A Half Men, Ugly Betty, etc.
Do you get the opportunity to see the US version of The Office? I’ve been a big fan of the original BBC series, but I find the US series pretty funny as well.
And what about older sitcoms? Which were popular in your country? M*A*S*H, Cheers, Frasier, Everybody Loves Raymond, Friends, etc.
I read somewhere that Seinfeld, which was enormously popular over here, fell flat with UK audiences.
So what comedies from here do people enjoy where you are?
Just curious.

Friends and Will and Grace are probably the two biggest.

We also have re-runs of Everybody loves Raymond, Frasier, Two and a Half Men, King Of Queens, How I Met Your Mother, M*A*S*H, The Office (US), Sarah Silverman Programme, Big Bang Theory…

There are a lot more, but these are the one I can think of from the top of my head.

Friends and Will and Grace are reruns, too. They’ve been off the air for years in the US.

Friends is still aired… over and over again. Please make them stop.

I remember that Dharma and uhh Greg? i forget, Will and Grace, Friends and Frasier used to play in India about 6 years ago.

@lightlyseared – Friends and Will&Grace reruns are still shown in USA too and will probably continue for a while.

All of the above are available – personally I like Desperate Housewives, House, NCIS and Dexter (and yes, I consider them sit -coms ).
Although the funniest and most entertaining is South Park :)

As for Seinfeld….....ugh! don’t get me started! Always found him to be so painfully petty and self-absorbed that I just couldn’t watch it.
I was a dedicated viewer of Friends. And M*A*S*H is just classic!

In Australia we get ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and ‘Ugly Betty’, Most of our TV line up is made from US shows. i.e. tonight on free to air TV we have, How I Met Your Mother, House, CSI: Miami, Gossip Girl, Prison Break, Las Vegas, The Simpsons and Late Show with David Letterman. Then on Pay TV or “Cable” We have entire channels devoted to American Sitcoms, Seinfeld, Fraiser, Becker, NCIS, Law & Order, Project Runway, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Sex and The City.

But then again we also have UKTV devoted to BBC programming. But theres in minimal Australian TV on Pay TV.
