Can anyone recommend a community college in Chicago?

Asked by craziprincess (135points) December 16th, 2008

I need to take a couple of prerequisite courses for graduate school. Just moved to Chicago and I’m not very familiar with the colleges here. I’ve looked into Harold Washington, Malcolm X, Truman, Kennedy-King, Wright, Daley and Olive-Harvey. Can anyone recommend one? Or even warn me against one. Any information would be useful.

kennedy king is good. it’s in a revived area that’s seen a lot of “urban” days, but it is potentially a front-runner. it’s iner-city. malcolm X, also good. close to downtown, shopping and culture as well as chicago police academy. harold washington is in the loop and very close to all transporation, museums and shopping. not a big fan of olive-harvey. too remote. try morraine valley community college. very diverse and extremely scenic.

Harper is a pretty decent university.

Hmm. Have you looked into Columbia College? I’m from Oak Park, and a bunch of my friends went there.

Triton College was the local communicty college, but that’s further out from the city.

Trustinglife Columbia is a great college to look into. I actually did a lot of research on Columbia. The yearly tuition is $17,000, a 2.5 GPA is needed to enter, and no ACT score is needed for entry. An essay does need to be written however. Columbia is not exactly a community college though and Columbia is considered an art school.

Ah, yes! That makes more sense given which friends attended. Thanks, Hype.

trustinglife Your welcome? I’m not entirely sure what you meant by the response. If you were talking about the requirements, the money, or were being sarcastic. I’m leaning more towards one of the first two, but if you could clear that up for me that would be great.

I wanted to recommend Columbia, but didn’t had a hazy memory about it. You filled in the gaps in my memory with solid information. The comment about my friends was due to their artistic bent – it “fit” that they would go to an art school. I appreciated your response!
