Why would a father name his son Adolf Hitler?

Asked by LikeABird (48points) December 16th, 2008

True Story: A holocaust refuter names his son “Adolf Hitler Campbell”. Is this not a form of abuse since the child will be most likely be scorned, ridiculed and discriminated against for the rest of his life? P.S. His daughters’ name is Aryan Nation.

Not to burst your bubble, but without a proper link I’m not exactly sure I believe this story. Also even if I google it, not all stories on the internet are reliable.

augustlan's avatar

Because he’s an asshole?

LikeABird's avatar

HYPESERVER, Are you serious? It was on Chelsea Handler as well as NY Times.

RandomMrdan's avatar

well, I think it’d be quite ironic, he’d hate his nazi father instead of the jewish community.

hypeserver's avatar

@LikeABird Just because I didn’t read something doesn’t give you any reason to be inconsiderate about things.

LikeABird's avatar

Sorry to hurt your feelings.

hypeserver's avatar

Sarcasm noted.

RandomMrdan's avatar

I don’t know…there might be sincerity in that text.

augustlan's avatar

I’m with MrDan, here. I think that might be a sincere apology.

PupnTaco's avatar

I’m with augustlan, he named his kids that because he’s an asshole.

Occam’s razor and all that.

hypeserver's avatar

Well if that is a sincere apology I have to thank you and apologize myself for assuming you were being sarcastic. To answer the question, there’s something wrong with that man.

afghanmoose's avatar

maybe he likes things German,Aryan and the history and the holocaust just so happened to fall in somewhere

hypeserver's avatar

Liking German things doesn’t mean you like Hitler…

afghanmoose's avatar

well hitler was one of a german thing, and i am sorry if i meant that in any type of an offensive way

hypeserver's avatar

All I’m saying is that most German’s hate Hitler and think he’s a disgrace to their country.

judochop's avatar

I like Germany. I will even go as far as saying that Adolf Hitler sounds like an interesting socialite. Now with that said you can’t just ignore history. Naming your child Adolf Hitler is going to have some reprecussions. He no doubt was a manicle killer. He no doubt was a douchebag and deserves nothing more than spit on the floor when his name is mentioned. Now, even though we have all established a simple fact, this is America. Not Nazi Germany. I do not like that the Cambells are full of hate breed and shananagens (spelling?). I do support thier right to name thier child after whom ever they want. How many of you are named after family members or people your family admired? Morally wrong??? Sure it is and I am willing to bet I don’t agree with anything that family has to say about culture but I will support thier right to say it. God bless freedom of speech.

judochop's avatar

might add that Germany has some great cars and awesome ice wine.

augustlan's avatar

He has the right to do so, but his child will suffer for it.

Also, what are manicles and why did Hitler kill them?

judochop's avatar

thanks for making fun of me. I see I miss spelled a word. Manaical killer. He was no doubt a manaicle killer. Awesome!!! I’m cool again!

augustlan's avatar

I’m sorry…it just struck me as funny. Maniacal, BTW I’m really not trying to be an ass.

judochop's avatar

shit. and if I can add this please:
I see that my sarcasm has gone undetected yet again. Double shit.

augustlan's avatar

s’ok. Happens to all of us!

@afghan: He’s more of an Austrian thing, himself.

The guy’s an idiot. and more interested in his own ideologies than his children. It’s all good, if his kid has a single IQ point he’ll change his name as soon as he’s able, if not, more evidence that hate is bred into the next generation and he becomes the best example for teaching kids right and wrong we could ever ask for.

jessturtle23's avatar

It’s too bad that dumbass was able to find the hole to procreate. I’m sure he will get his when his kids rebel and turn into super liberals and marry someone of a different race and hate their father. Poor kids. I was taught that the Aryans were a bunch of illiterate sheep farmers. Anyone else taught that?

Not a credible news source since i guess it is gothamist but still. I guess on one hand you could name your kids what you want, cars, numbers, this guy just happened to want to name his child after one of the most hated men ever. It just doesn’t seem to give the child a fair shot in life.

LikeABird's avatar

Yes, I actually was apologizing. I can be sarcastic a lot but in that instance, I was not. :)

Ignorance is clearly this man’s issue. As with any human, he obviously has the right to name his children whatever he wants. I believe in that freedom. I am just blown away that people still exist in our society with these ignorant, outdated ideas and predjudices. And I hate to think it but, the possibility of this father passing the torch to his son is pretty good. The kid will do one of two things: rebel, change his name, divorce his parents and eventually write a biography about how crazy his parents were and how he rose above it all, or become the next serial killer.
In New Zealand, a 9-year old girl became ward of the court because her parents named her (ready for this?) Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii. She was able to legally change her name to avoid even further ridicule that she was experiencing. In my opinion, there is a fine line being crossed here, and it’s hard to say where the government should cross it. Luckily for Talula, she was able to change her name and hopefully create a better future for herself. Poor little Adolf may not have that option.
I feel a protest coming on in in their neighborhood.

afghanmoose's avatar

i just heard the news and the guy said he named his son that because no one else would name their child by that name.

Sueanne_Tremendous's avatar

Just a quick note: the surname Hitler is still in use. I know a few Hitler’s in Milwaukee. While I don’t know any Adolph’s the Hitlers I know fare pretty well and don’t take much grief.

hypeserver's avatar

@ Sueanne Tremendous No offense to “The Hitler’s”, but I would honestly think about a name change. No matter how nice you are and even if you have no relation to Adolf Hitler you still could never change the meaning of your name (By meaning I mean how your name is looked upon such as the Hitler name being looked at with disgust).

Knotmyday's avatar

Da hitlers trow a greeet perty. Brats ‘n bee-yer ‘n all.

asmonet's avatar

@Sueanne: I knew a Hitler in school once, I didn’t know their last name and I made a Nazi joke at lunch.

Not a good day.

Crusader's avatar

Reality Check,

Hitler was not Adolph ‘Hitler’s birth name.

Also, plenty of people named after certain other
so-called prophets or leaders but we will not blink
and eye because they are not White men.

ragingloli's avatar

good thing that in germany, names have to be approved by the state. naming a child adolf hitler would not be legally possible in germany.

CMaz's avatar

Wasn’t the Volkswagen Hitler’s dream car, “The peoples car”, the working man’s car? Now it is a rather successful and popular vehicle.
People don’t seem to mind it’s history.
