What can I build in my shop class?

Asked by Krow1125 (38points) December 18th, 2008

What can I build at SCHOOL?
I have finished every project needed for my shop class and still have a month to go. Can anybody think of a project that I could make? No Dumb Ideas!

Bluebird or wren boxes. They have to be done to spec. with a very specific sized entry hole; cutting board with handles and a trench for gravy;

One of our sons made a beautiful coffee table with rosewood inlay in his shop class and it has always been a favorite of mine . We still use it and he graduated years ago.

Make office supplies. A trash can, pencil holder, in/out tray, a pen (only the outside), book ends, bulletin board, mouse pad, etc… Make it a set.

SuperMouse stole my idea! My daughter made the coolest clock in shop a couple of years ago.

Make me two specialty bookcases to fit these weirdly-shaped cut-outs in my master bedroom. I will pay.

How about a free standing bookshelf?
You could even design a special top on it that will hold your guitar!

Bookshelf. Definitely a bookshelf.

I love puzzle boxes – the ones where you have to push or slide the panels in a specific way to get them to open. I’ve always been fascinated by the workings of them – that’s what I would build!

sdeutsch Those are really not fun at all to build. At all.

Pick something simple and useful (cutting board, little box) and concentrate on making it beautiful. Find lovely wood, sand and polish so that the surface is satiny, etc. I have a friend who makes his living from crafting wooden furniture and smaller items; they are all gorgeous and require running one’s hands over the surface to really appreciate the effort.

He commands and gets very high prices.

A chair/stool! Ever so useful and so many ways to go about it.

hypeserver: I don’t know, I built one for a design class in college – I had a pretty good time! It’s all about how you approach it (and how much time you want to spend on it!) It took a really long time, but it was worth it!

So…what did you decide on?

Krow1125's avatar

I am making a guitar.
I’m a Fooly Cooly Fan so I just have to. Either a Rickenbacker or Flying V.

Sweet! Good luck!!!

Sounds good! Let us know how it turns out, ok?
