Ug, I'm sick and bored. What game should I play?

Asked by andrew (16562points) December 20th, 2008 from IM

I’ve finished Braid, I have Metroid and Fallout sitting here but I feel like that’s too much effort. I picked up a used copy of Civ Revolutions yesterday, but it’s not holding my interest. Ideally I’d play Little Big Planet but I don’t have a PS3. Any Xbox Live games that would whet my appetite for an engaging, simple game?

The only game that comes to mind is Portal. (On The Orange Box, or “Portal: Still Alive” in the marketplace)

dammit, bust out your original nes and play duckhunt.

hah! i’d give you a game suggestion but i don’t play with my xbox that much

Usually when I get bored of the games I have on Xbox, I play the Original Doom which I bought on the marketplace. :)

Tetris or Bust a Move. Mindless fun that is somewhat meditative…don’t ya think?

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Fable 2. I’m a PS3 fanboy myself, but my friend runs on XBox. He bought the game and found a new addiction so I guess it’s goodbye Oblivion. Luckily he still finds time for Rock Band (maybe some day he’ll beat me lol)

Portal is good, but it can make your brain hurt towards the end. Braid is good too, but same thing, unless you cheat like I did and look online for help. Fable II is good but can suck until you get your gold built up, which either requires real-time waiting or having somebody online gift it to you.

A good, funny, original-mario-esq game to download from the arcade is Cloning Clyde – I’ve actually gone back and re-played it several times, it’s really cartoony, simple but smart, and pretty amusing.

I’m obsessed with Fallout 3 right now, I even got the book and I really do not recommend playing that game without the book, it’s pretty involved.

ps…hope you feel better soon!

@Sakata I actually rented Fable 2, and I thought it was great… for a while. Then it got way to boring, because I played through it like 3 times, I was just getting acheivments, then all of the sudden I asked myself “Why am I doing this? I’m not even having fun!”

I just think it’s too easy and kind of a dissapointment. Co-op could use A LOT of work too.

Sorry all, I finished Portal a couple weeks ago (best game ever!) I’ve burnt out a little with Fallout… I’m maybe 80% through it and can’t seem to continue.

miniclip.com?
addictinggames.com?
There’s more but those are the ones with a BIG variety of games.

I rarely play games on the computer (except hearts) but my brother plays all the time and he loves it.

Well, it was down between getting a copy of mirror’s edge to play this weekend and finish, whe i was looking through my old game i found assassin’s creed which i still have about 10% left—which is just what the doctor ordered.

@madcapper: Good suggestion, but I hate horror games.

Hey! Save some change in these tough times.

Fire up the ‘fox and play Auditorium or Dinorun. Both beautiful flash games. Tough, but not too mentally taxing. And no exploding heads. I love Fallout, but I wish there less eyeballs exploding.

@ tonedef

Dinorun is on miniclip. I love that game thought it is very depressing.

andrew's avatar

@tonedef: Not really spending since I’m trading in all my old games.

madcapper's avatar

@andrew ok but I will say I don;t really like horror games either, e.g. Dead Space, never bothered to play it because I like social games much more! Left for dead is completely social, you can play by yourself with AI team-mates but thats no fun haha

anyway mirrors edge looked fun, I played the demo, so if you get it let us know what you think

Are you talking about PC games?
Of course it depends on what you like, and even though I played Fallout 1 (I assume you played 3) I have never even heard of Portal or Metroid, so maybe we have different tastes altogether.

If you’re into RPGs:
I got Oblivion when it first came out and still haven’t found time to play (I’m sort of looking forward to an early retirement for things like this, because even a 2-week Christmas break doesn’t seem enough). I loved Gothic 1&2 (though 3 was very buggy). I got really emerged in their world.

If you’re into TBS:
I tried the latest Civ, but even though I loved Civ1&2 and Alpha Centauri, it seems that it’s just the same game with different graphics, and it was never about the graphics, so it’s just boring. The game I’ve been playing lately is Heroes3 (the series recently released number 5, but I liked 3 better).

Casual gaming: I downloaded “Magic Farm” for my daughter and got completely hooked. It’s even free (but you get ads if you don’t pay). And there’s also “Grimm’s Hatchery” which is the same thing but with dragons.

My favourite game of all time was Frontier:EliteII on the Amiga (which I played non-stop for 7 years!), but I assume you have no idea what the hell I’m talking about, and I’m pretty sure you have no PC old enough to play it.

@jack79 what’s TBS? just curious :).

andrew's avatar

@madcapper: Yeah, I just heard from a friend that Left 4 Dead is more like a zombie spoof action game than a horror suspense game. I may check it out.

I’m almost done with mirror’s edge. Underwhelming. Truly.

TBS = Turn Based Shooter

90s_kid's avatar

Thanks :)

Jack79's avatar

actually I meant Turn Based Strategy, as opposed to RTS (Real Time Strategy) such as Age of Empires etc. I still don’t know what games andrew is in.

I have actually played a type of turn-based shooter: UFO-Terror from the Deep. The strategic part of it was pretty good, but as a shooter it was pretty lame. I think generally once you take the speed element out of shooting, then it’s not that much fun anymore.

And I still haven’t decided myself what to play over the holidays. I’m still replaying Heroes3, but would like a fresh challenge.

lol oh yea
Been a while :)

Oo ok thanks
I’m not a gamer-person. All I can do is play the guitar and draw architectural houses.

Counter Strike

On the PC or XBox 360 Left4Dead is my current game of choice. If you’re looking for flash games, then how about some retro fun on Pacxon ?
