Can you still use a wood burning fireplace if you have a television set mounted on the wall over it?

We have an LCD T.V. mounted over the fireplace. I’ve never started a fire because I’m concerned that the heat might have some effect on the T.V. I know that it’s not just drywall behind the T.V., the fireplace is made of cement blocks (I think, either that or brick). Either way, do either of those materials conduct any kind of heat and would you start a fire in the fireplace? (Not as opposed to other places.)

@Gimme, I know nothing about the fireplace, but what in the world are you doing up so early?
Sucks, believe me. Kid #3 should be home from the all night lock-in shortly, so I set the alarm for 6:00 to make sure he doesn’t ring the bell and send Max into an all out barking frenzy.
That was one heck of a sentence. @Mouse, don’t ask your roomie this question. I don’t know that I can stand an hour lecture on the inner workings of a fireplace.
when you used the fireplace before does the wall(where the tv is now) get hot?
I’ve never started a fire. Been here three years, haven’t used the fireplace once. In fact, I’ve never used any fireplace.
my hubby works for an appliance store and he said,” no it will give off to much heat and it will damage the t.v..”
also you might want to have the fireplace checked out, there’s no blockage and no damage too it….just to be safe.
@Rossi & Tyrant, thanks so much. I think the fireplace is going to continue to be just a nice feature in the house.
@gimmedat.. you are very welcome. it is a expensive t.v. to have go bad like that. my hubby don’t understand why it is the tv was placed over a wood stove , but he is glad that you asked first so that you don’t do damage to a nice t.v. like that. happy holidays to you and your family. :)
Over the fireplace seemed like the right spot to enjoy MEB (maximum entertainment benefit). In reality, we’ve lived without a fire this long, it’s no big deal.
oh i see,. sorry that you can’t use it. but glad it is no big deal to you.
Happy holidays, rossi. Hopefully we don’t get slammed with the weather that knocks out power and we have no other source of heat.
thank you gimmedat… i hope that we don’t get it as bad as they are saying too. they are saying a noreaster here. i will keep you in my prayers.
I have a very nice plasma TV over my fireplace and I use it all the time (the fireplace I mean) but the main difference is that I have a gas fireplace and not a wood burner so I guess I’m no help at all. Nevermind lol
just got news . you can use the stove,my hubby called work and they just called back , they said as long as it is not too close and watch the wires.
This might make not using your fireplace easier on you.
Supermouse that was great, thanks for sharing.
