I have an HP laptop, but the display stopped working. I hooked it up to another monitor and it works fine. It’s a 4 yr old laptop, is it worth repairing?

Sounds broke. Typically, most 4 year old laptops aren’t worth replacing the displays in. Maybe it’s time to get a new computer. You don’t know what part will wear out next.
Depending on how popular a model it was, OE laptop screens aren’t terribly expensive on eBay. They’re also not that difficult to replace, if that is indeed the problem. bodyhead is right though, unless you only use it once a month four years is more than a full life for a laptop.
Whatever you do… Don’t buy an Acer!!!!
They are terrible computers
If you don’t hear any strange beeps, odds are that the backlight has gone out. At 4 years, it’s a tossup on whether it’s worth fixing. Entry level model with an AMD processor? Pull the hard drive and toss it. You can get a HDD cable or enclosure to get your documents off. Otherwise, If you can find a compatible display, it’s just a ribbon cable and snapping the front panel apart, presuming you’re mechanically inclined.
You could also try an indie repair guy, somebody who works out of his house or a storefront, not one of the big places like Best Buy/Geek $quad.
go on ebay they sell these screens that fit your laptop just replace it
