I agree with Rossi_Bear, Amazing Grace. I have a beautiful arrangement for piano and have already told my family this is what I want. Before my mom died, she told us what she wanted.

Not so sure about my funeral but my husband swears I must play “Baby Got Back” at his.

Whata’s the Story Monrning Glory by Oasis

dalepetrie's avatar

I’d start the ceremony with Highway to Hell and end it with The Thrill is Gone.

lrk's avatar

Strangers in the Night, maybe? Some really good song about zombies.

augustlan's avatar

I don’t have a preference. Whatever makes my loved ones feel better is fine with me : )

Sakata's avatar

Definitely getting played:
Man In The Box – Alice in Chains
The Way I Am -Eminem
Shut Up – The Bloodhound Gang

Maybe getting played:
Life is Beautiful – Sixx A.M.
Welcome to the Black Parade – My Chemical Romance
Walk – Pantera

dalepetrie's avatar

@Sakata – don’t you think “This Love” is more appropriate for a funeral?

googlybear's avatar

Would rather have my friends and family be laughing remembering my good times….but if they gots to listen to music…AC/DC Back in Black it is :-)

“Outward Bound” by Tom Paxton

During the viewing:
Mojo Kitty by Blacktop
Night Owl by Cleo Lane
Sunshine of your Love by Ella Fitzgerald (one of the coolest cover songs ever!)
Hot Rod Poppa by Marsh Hunt
During the burial:
Do That There by Lyrics Born
It’s Still Rock N Roll To Me by Billy Joel (the Glass Houses version not some new clean mix, the old school 3 inch tape version)
3FT. Deep by DJ Format, Abdominal & D-Steve.

I want some people dancing and remembering how cool the music was. Funeral’s are hard enough on people hopefully some of the kids that will be there will be inspired by the music instead of scarred.

OH! And I must have this song blaring from the hearse:
Another One of Those Songs by D-Sisive (probably one of the dopest songs ever)

Raggedy_Ann's avatar

@gimmedat-we played that song at my mom’s funeral. My sister was supposed to sing (play piano) but felt she couldn’t due to emotions…so she played on the funeral director (happened to be a friend of my parents) sang. Not quite what we wanted but beautiful jus the same.

Desperado, The Eagles, one of the most beautiful songs ever penned.

Fancy Funeral, Lucinda Williams I love her

Some think a fancy funeral
will be worth every cent
for every dime and nickel
is money better spent
better spent on groceries
covering the bills
instead of little luxuries
unnecessary frills
lovely yellow daffodils
and lacey filigree’s
pretty little angels
for everyone to see
lilly of the valley
long black limousenes
three or four months salary
just to pay for all those things

So don’t buy a fancy funeral
it’s not worth it in the end
goodbyes can still be beautiful
with all the money that you’ll spend
theres no amount of riches
bring back what you lost
to satisfy your wishes
you’ll never justify the cost

In My Life by The Beatles is the only song I will require to be played at the funeral/memorial service itself.

But a lot of dance music at the party after. The Groove Line by Heatwave would be choice.

At My first Husband’s funeral we played “Free Bird” By Lynard Skynard and his friend sang “So You Think You can Tell” By Pink Floyd. He committed suicide. He considered Free Bird his theme song and So You Think You Can Tell was a song he had been playing a lot before he dies and was really appropriate. His friend fell apart while singing though.

When I’m Gone
Only God Knows Why
feuer frei
Blow Me Away
Join Me in Death
Hallelujah
While My Guitar Gently Weeps

and so so many more, I want my funeral to be a party of my life, not a mourning of my death with drinks/light show/dancing… no crying

I don’t know about the funeral, but years ago I told my husband I want Dave Van Ronk’s instrumental version of “St. Louis Tickle” put on a loop for playing at the reception. This guy does a very nice rendition of it (worlds truer than Arlo Gurthrie’s which is just a showpiece, without the feeling), but it’s still the “real thing” for me, thanks.

Dead Man’s Will by Iron & Wine. (And here’s a great live version, which I saw in person.) God, I love this song.

PupnTaco's avatar

I don’t know that one, who sings it?

coffeechick's avatar

I’m not really planning on dying, but if I did I wouldn’t really be around to plan the funeral now would I?

as for a song that I would like?

I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab For Cutie.

then promptly kill my husband cause he made a promise :P

Staalesen's avatar

Green fields of France, Covered by Dropkick Murphys… It Fits the mood.
And at the reception I belive I´d prefer always look on the bright side of life by Monty Python :)

Bye Bye Miss American Pie by Don Mclean. You cant choose anything better.

dogkittycat's avatar

I’d want….... Crank it up, and all up beat fun music, celebrate my life, I want people to want to come to my funeral not dread it. Besides I’d be upset if people did nothing but cry with dreary music to accompany everyone’s misery.

bookish1's avatar

Only one song?!!! It would have to be Life’s Not a Race by 311
