Knee injury advice?

Asked by flyawayxxballoon (1352points) December 23rd, 2008

About a week and a half ago, I had an embarassing accident…long story short, I fell on my knee…hard. Anyway, part of my knee is almost completely numb, and if you touch certain parts of my knee, you can feel it somewhere else. Should I be concerned, or will it eventually return to normal? Is there anything I should do to speed up the healing process?

you should go, you might have broken/fractured it, having a numb knee isn’t good

Thanks for your inputm Judi and tyrant.
I may or may not go to the doctor; I’m pretty sure I didn’t break anything, although that doesn’t mean I didn’t or that it’s not something else that should still be looked at.

might also be nerve damage

If you wait until noon tomorrow, you will be lumbered. Most Docs’ offices will be closed due to holiday and soon-to-arrive week-end. You may get stuck sitting in an ER somewhere for many hours. 10 days with no improvement is a long time. Too late to ice it, I think. Is there discoloration, pain when standing on the leg, lack of flexibility, etc? Does heat help?

You picked a terrible time to ask about this. Good luck.

I suppose I did pick a terrible time, but better late then never. ;)

I’m not experiencing any of the things you mentioned, Gail.
I’m assuming that’s a good sign

And heat doesn’t have much of an effect on it.

if there is numbness, swelling put ice on it for 15 on 5 off, for 5 days. its what happend when i just about fractured my hand… swelled 2.5x its size. seriously go to the doc. if you broke something they may now have to remove bone fragments. or you face the possibility or it not healing right and possibly walking funny for the rest of your life.

@Fly: I would assume nothing other than I forgot to list other dire symptoms, having let my medical license lapse. The numbness and referral pain I would find alarming.

@Fly: I just checked your profile. Talk to your parents, now.

@Gail: They already know, but I appreciate your concern.

You could do permanent damage to your knee. Anything that lasts a week without improvement usually means professional help is needed.

Kiev749's avatar

out of all curiosity, what did you do?

flyawayxxballoon's avatar

That’s a long and embarrassing story that I’d rather not tell. :)

Better than me falling down the curb on one side of the street, twisting my ankle, they falling up the curb on the other side of the street, twisting my other ankle, in a dress, with an armload of books, in front of 20 frat boys? (I dated the one that picked me up and carried me to my car for almost 2 years.)

Find a good source of electrons (x-ray) and a decent interpreter of images (radiologist) along with an osteopath (doctor).

Ok, Fly…I’ll get you to the doctor.
