To all Jews: What movie are you seeing this Christmas?

Asked by Mtl_zack (6781points) December 24th, 2008

The stereotype is that all Jews go to the movies on Christmas. What movie did you see? I saw Milk, along with a whole theater of other people in Halendale, Florida.

My dad (who isn’t Jewish) always goes to the movies on Thanksgiving and Christmas. He usually takes along some younger nieces/nephews to see whatever big blockbuster is out.

We watched the House Bunny on DVD this evening while most people were sticking presents under the tree.

Instead of a movie, I think I will take my wife to walk on the beach, it is in the 60’s here and that would beat a movie this weekend. My children will probably running around with friends in the afternoon.

I would like to see the movie about Nixon and Frost but I don’t think it’s opened here in NoBrainsville North Carolina, my current place of residence

The Olympia (WA)Film Society runs the sing-along version of Fiddler on the Roof. The first year, they had a shtetl-wear fashion show, with awards for best costume. The rabbi won.
Now every cool person in town goes. (The Jews don’t get mad.) I can hardly wait!

@susan: That sounds like so much fun!

Not Jewish, but we’re going to the movies this (Christmas day) evening with some friends who are visiting from out of town. We have no extended family to speak of, so the holiday is very small for us!

@srmorgan: Hmm, Geldene Land. I bet it means “Land Where the Streets Are Paved with Gold”. Yes? I would love to see the mishpochah from the old country! I’ll pm you my real email address. I want to win that context next year; a shiksa should make an effort.

Please send that comment to me one more time. I think I deleted it inadvertantly.

When I’m with my family we always went to the movies on Christmas too… But we’re not jewish.

@AP: Was it good? It’s on my list.

@Augustian, I would have to say it’s overrated. The make-up for the reverse aging process is really amazing, the sets were great, and how they got such a long movie out of a short story is interesting, but over all, I left feeling ambivalent about the whole entertainment experience of the movie. It was well done, but there was not much of a story that could be identified with; the whole premise is too fantastical. I found myself comparing it to Fried Green Tomatoes, which I really love, and Benjamin Button came up really lacking.

Thanks for the review, AP…I’ll wait ‘til it’s available on Netflix.

I thought Jews were supposed to be eating Chinese food!

At least, when we were at a Chinese restaurant one Christmas, everyone else seemed to be Jewish.

I’m not Jewish but if anyone of you are I recommend the movie “Sixty Six”. It is about a awkward jewish boy who is having his barmitzvah (sorry if the spelling is off) he wants it to be the biggest day of his life. Until he find out it is on the same day as the world cup (english soccer game, huge thing there) and he is determined to convince his family/friends to come to his barmitzvah instead of watching the world cup by making it the best event of the year. It is frigging hilarious A MUST SEE! Especially the begining, so funny! Plus it has Helena Bonham Carter in it, shes a pretty good actress.

my mum suggested that her, my sister, and I go see a movie on Christmas. I stared at her in horror, and disbelief. I think Christmas sholud be about spending time with family, and relaxing.
