Is winking a part of your expressive repertoire?

My sister-in-law seems to fancy the wink, although not very good at it. She gives a two eyed jobby that’s more creepy than clever. Do you wink at others while talking? What does a wink signify to you? Is one able to bring winking into his/her expressive repertoire without being creepy? When would/do you wink?
Personally, I’ve decided to adopt the wink to see how it changes situations. The next time I’ve been given too much change, I’m going to say,“Thanks!” and walk away. If I’m ever pulled over again, I’m going to wink as I say,” I had mo idea I was going that fast officer!” When my boys start to drive me crazy with their musical ways, I’m going to wink and let ‘em know,“Oh, you can play later.” The wink just seems to add pleasure all around, no?

My mother did a very strange two-eyed wink too. It was either very funny and silly and cute (sometimes) or kind of embarrassing. I can only wink with one eye and I only use it in a kind of burlesque way, very exaggerated. But not often. And Sarah Palin made me not want to do it at all.
The only time I wink is when my dog winks at me. Then I’ll wink back.
For some reason, I wink at my youngest daughter whenever I notice her looking my way. Other than that, I don’t think I do it often. Sarah Palin kind of ruined the wink for me, too.
no but the smile and pointed “gun” finger is… I leave out the wink.
i’m really in to the wink. It’s just the right about of creepy.
I never wink… it reminds me of creepy old guys who wink every time they say something they consider clever.
my moms friend winks a lot when shes drunk. but when she does it it looks more like some kind of bizarre facial twitch, especially if she winks several times in a row. it’s really creepy.
Depends, I use it with veiled vaguely sarcastic threats when it will add a bit of DOOM! to the moment. Sometimes, I flirt-wink, but that’s very, very rare. I almost only wink at my guy friends, seems weird to wink at another gal to me. Besides, I was once told my winks were precious by a boy, after that I became very aware of who got them and when. :)
Some people can’t pull off a wink though, Sarah Palin can’t. On them it just seems tacky, an obvious desperate attempt to establish familiarity. Gross.
Oh, and I refuse to wink if my eyelashes aren’t curled and mascara is not present. If that criteria isn’t met, it’s a fail.
It sure is! ;)
I think I tend to use a wink as a quicker – and easier to multitask – alternative to “thumbs up” or actually saying “got it!”, “you got it!”, “I know and I’m on it”, “we’re on the same wavelength”, “I know you know what I’m saying”,etc.
Also I find it makes little ones giggle, so that’s a fun use for it too.
The wink really depends on the winker and the winked at:
Old guy with really thick out of date glasses winks at 20something in a bar, creepy.
Asmonet winking to flirt, special.
Sarah Palin winking to become more familiar to us, stupid.
Wildflower winking to make kids laugh, fun.
The wink is fun.
I wink a lot & always have. At men & women both. It’s just part of me. But I do make sure it fits the situation, & I’ve never had a negative reaction. Mostly I get grins or laughs back.
i never ever wink. i remember when i was like 7 and there was a coke commercial with like, britney spears in it, and she winked at the end. so i practiced in the mirror. and i never successfully got that down.
Yepper. Usually when I make a smart ass comment or when I am teasing someone I’ll wink to let them know I was kidding. I also will wink at certain women in bars. I kinda do it as I am turning my head so it makes difficult for the winkee to know for certain if I am winking at them. Then I can kinda see if they are checking me out or if I got their attention. It works.
