What's the best cheap laptop?
My laptop died last week, and I need to replace it with less than $300 dollars, I’m keeping an eye on craigslist and ebay for one, but I was just wondering if anyone has any other ideas.

Whatever you do, don’t get an acer. I got one of those because it was cheaper than the others and it never worked. I sent it back several times to be fixed but they never did fix it right.
I really like ASUS laptops. They’re inexpensive because they’re not as well established as more retail brands but have had extensive experience in manufacturing components for computers previously. They also have a very comprehensive service plan…
I’d go for a used Lenovo Thinkpad. Got two of them second hand myself and they’ve never failed me.
I don’t mean to confuse, but I recommend Acer. Sorry that basp has had a bad experience with them but I love mine. My mother has an Acer as well and it’s been great. The computer to avoid is Gateway. Crap!
I have to second artificialard’s ASUS recommendation. Target has one model for $299. They’re great even if you have another computer because of the size. I’ve seen several techie types with ASUS laptops at social media events; the size is half that of a laptop, and they’re great to take notes, e-mail, etc. You can use an external hard drive for expanded memory.
I actually have heard alot of people say good things about Acer, and Asus, my only concern with those “netbooks” is the screen size, I do some photo editing for my photographer girlfriend, and that could be a problem. If I can’t find a full size laptop in my price range that’s what I’m going for, then I just have to choose between an Asus Eee pc, the Acer aspire one, or the Dell mini nine.
