Any recommendations for dimmable CFLs?

Asked by ben (9085points) December 27th, 2008

I’ve got a dimmer which has kept me from putting in CFLs in my living room (I tried it, but they buzzed), but now I’ve heard they came out with dimmable CFLs… anyone have any experience with these and can make some recommendations? Do they work, or should I wait and stick with incandescents?

Yes they work but they work differently. When dimmed the light is less, obviously, but you don’t seem to get that nice romantic glow you get with normal bulbs at lower levels. Mind you that might just be me.

You might also want to check out dimmable LED light bulbs. I have had greater success with these.

I’ve heard good things about the dimmable LEDs, but they’re super expensive.

They are super expensive. I paid $30 for one MR16 type LED. My hope is that the price will eventually come down a bit.

With all that Fluther money, Ben can afford it.
