I have a company-issued blackberry. I SMS personal messages which is all on the up and up and acceptable to company. However I don’t like that all SMS #, dates, times comes thru on company phone bill; prefer more privacy. What is the best platform to communicate with others on blackberry or iphone?

You could use Jott to send a voice message that will be transcribed to text. I use it for lots of things.
I recently read of a new website that allows you to send text message via the web. I thought it was Google but I can’t find it at the moment. Here is another list I found though.
This site has 10 web based services for sending texts messages from a browser:

I don’t want to start a big discussion here, but if your company is ok with you sending personal SMS, why do you worry? Why would they be interested in who you are sending to? And even if they did, which they probably don’t, so what?
Anyways, you can use a lot of online services to send SMS, your carrier probably has one which makes it possible to send from your own number. I don’t know what services is the best in the US, but i’m sure google will find great results for you.
Well if your that paranoid, just think, the cell company has a copy of all your messages.
IMHO SMS is more secure than any IM service and anyway I expect your company has better things to do than read the entire phone bill and probably only look at them if your bill is excessive.
also does anyone else smell tinned luncheon meat here
While the cell company does have a copy, they won’t give them up without a court order to do so.
@wilhel1812, what if I’m SMSing “man, i totally want to get a new job”?
They won’t be able to see your messages, only who you send it to. And if that’s how you feel, it’s not something you should keep a secret.
There is a new service out called Mjoy that is free SMS texting. It’s only free if you both use the service to send/receive. I’m not sure what devices it works on. Some others to try are GizmoSMS text4free and txtdrop. Going to be checking out some of those myself since I can’t text for free to Canada on my unlimited BB plan. GRRRR
