Just curious as to what the browser of choice is for Fluther users.

At home I alternate between Safari, Flock and Firefox. I mainly use Flock for Facebook, Firefox for Stumbling and use userscripts with the Greasemonkey add-on. But for everything else I use Safari. And when I’m on a PC, like at work, I use Google Chrome.

FIREFOX FTW!

tinyvamp's avatar

my heart used to be with firefox but right now i really like safari and opera…. tough choices for a girl like me.

mattporter's avatar

Google Chrome is pretty stable. Firefox seems to just want to eat memory resources. As for IE, dont even bother.

seVen's avatar

FireFox sometimes Opera, used Chrome but it froze on me often, waiting for upgrade.

eambos's avatar

Firefox and chrome.

qualitycontrol's avatar

waiting for chrome for MAC, I use chrome on my pc at work, on my mac I use firefox. It seems way faster than safari and for some reason safari won’t let me install any digital certificates.

asmonet's avatar

Firefox!

Lol, ten answers in and no one says IE. Win!

Firefox is supoerb. As a pure browser I actually prefer Safari but I can’t live without the extensibility of Firefox – I can sync my bookmarks, block ads, easily download batches of files from a webpage, etc.

I had Internet Explorer but it got a virus. Now I have Mozilla Firefox and it is so annoying because when I open Firefox for the first time that day (I haven’t been on the computer for a while) It says “Firefox is down” I’m like “What the hell I wanna check Fluther!!”
So I have to open and close it about 15 times….only way I know. :( I am not a fan of Mozilla.

I think that the best is Internet Explorer——it’s a classic.

netxm's avatar

firefox and sometimes google chrome (faster) and IE7 (compatibility)

El_Cadejo's avatar

so much for that asmonet…

asmonet's avatar

That’s not an issue with Firefox, IE is way open to viruses, it is not the best. I’m betting it’s the virus causing your probelms, not Firefox.

@uber: I know right? :-/

Safari and Firefox IE sucks. You can’t keep the Viruses out. Switched to OS X 2 years ago. no bugs and not a single Viagra pop-up.

wilhel1812's avatar

Safari
inb4 webkit. It’s not a browser…

asmonet's avatar

…Firefox IE? What.

El_Cadejo's avatar

i think there should have been a comma after firefox

@90s IE is not secure uninstall and reinstall firefox

@wilhel1812 GA for “inb4”. /b/tard?

mrdh's avatar

FF FTW.
Safari has prettier text-rendering, but no add-ons is an instant deal breaker for me.
Chrome just eats all my resources and has no discernible difference in speed.
Opera sometimes makes websites look funny.
Firefox ftw.

asmonet's avatar

Seriously, Firefox is amazing, 90s. Don’t ever open IE again. booo!

90s_kid's avatar

@uberbatman and Asmonet

It’s my opinion. Firefox doesn’t have a virus, it is just weird. Once it is up, it is fast and fine. But everyonce in a while it screw up. And I agree that IE gets viruses easily but I still like it.

[it’s an edit because I used a saying that no one would understand]

wilhel1812's avatar

@ uberbatman: Yeah, but remember Rule 1 and 2!! lol

tinyvamp's avatar

how can anyone seriously like internet explorer when you have way better browsers? boggles my mind.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@wihel1812 lol. I havent been on there in ages…. i feel as if my IQ raised since then :P

eambos's avatar

Browsers don’t get viruses, they can just allow the malicious content to get to your computer.

mrdh's avatar

The only time you should use IE is to download Firefox.

suzyq2463's avatar

Safari. But it’s not playing nice with Facebook and it’s driving me crazy. Otherwise great.

natepilling's avatar

@mrdh I just experienced that today after reinstalling Windows. It was a scary experience.

mrdh's avatar

In school, all the teachers’ laptops have IE7 preinstalled. I tried to convert my maths teacher, telling her that she should download FF. She stared at me with an expression of utter confusion.

queenzboulevard's avatar

I actually just tried Firefox for a little while. It looks sweet, but I can’t deal with not being able to Command + Delete to erase an entire line of text, and Control+Command+D to get a dictionary definition (features of Safari).

iwamoto's avatar

Webkit Nightly Build, i wish i could use Chrome too….cmon google !

natepilling's avatar

I tried Chrome and I loved it, but without the extensions functionality, it was hard to make the switch.

lrk's avatar

Opera! Better resource usage than Firefox on Windows.

aanuszek1's avatar

Firefox Win! (IE FAIL)

augustlan's avatar

Ok, I’m gonna’ admit right up front that I’m a bit illiterate when it comes to computers. I’ve wanted to switch to something better for a long time, but have no clue how, and am scared that I’ll screw it up. I am here courtesy of AOL, and Internet Explorer (I guess?) on a PC. Looks like Firefox is the winner, so what do I do about it?

wilhel1812's avatar

You go to http://www.getfirefox.com and download it :)

augustlan's avatar

Thanks for the link. So when I download it, do I then need to delete IE? If not, what else do I need to do?

JoeyDesignsStuff's avatar

You can’t ever completely delete IE, sadly, but you don’t need to. Just open Firefox after it’s installed and agree that you want it to be the default browser from now on.

Then the healing can begin.

wilhel1812's avatar

IE is a part of the OS, so leave it there :)

mrdh's avatar

@queenzboulevard: To define words, I just Ctrl+T then Ctrl+K in FF and type “define: word”. Google does the dictionary work ;)

I tried uninstalling IE, doesn’t work. You can still use it. For example, open My Computer. Type “www.google.com” in the address bar.

Vinifera7's avatar

I like Opera and Firefox.

richardhenry's avatar

I use Safari. I like how simple it is, how fast it loads and renders pages, and the way it renders text. I hate reading long documents in FF.

Uber tip #1:

If you’re using a Mac, hold command+shift+D and hover over the word you want the definition for. It’ll pop up in a bubble. This works in basically any application, I’ve used it all the time with TextMate, Safari, CSSEdit and Espresso. Can’t try in Firefox because I’m on my phone, but it will probably work there too.

Uber tip #2:

If you’re using Safari, don’t bother typing out “www.fluther.com”. Instead, just type “fluther”. Safari will fill out the rest of the address for you.

@suzyg2463: Facebook had some issues with browser saved information recently, they reported it on their blog. To clear all the web saved information in your browser, choose “Safari” -> “Reset Safari”. This should fix any problems you’re having with Facebook.

Please note that doing this will clear the list of websites you recently visited and will log you out of any websites you’re signed into (like Fluther for example). Your bookmarks and everything else will remain exactly the same, just bear in mind that you’ll need to log back into websites when you visit them.

richardhenry's avatar

@suzyg2463: Actually, before you do that, try visiting Facebook and waiting for it to fully load. Once that’s happened, hold down the shift key, and click on the refresh button. This should cause Facebook to empty the browser cache and re-download from scratch. Only then, if you’re still having problems, try the above. Good luck.

wilhel1812's avatar

It will not work in firefox because it’s carbon based. it will only work in cocoa applications.

richardhenry's avatar

@wilhel1812: Eww.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@rich i dont remember giving those tips…..

mrdh's avatar

Isn’t it Ctrl+F5 for clearing cache and refreshing?

richardhenry's avatar

In Safari, no.
