Because it either wasn’t love in the first place or their love was betrayed, somehow.
That’s just the way life and relationships are…. it probably just wasn’t meant to be.
Love is not always sustainable. People lack the skills, or the patience, or the communication skills. One person decides it’s not worth the trouble any more, and breaks it off. The other person can’t believe it, and has to go through a long mourning process. It sucks. Life is like that. As we always used to say, “another fucking learning experience!”
Because not one of us is perfect.
Love alone is not enough. There is so much more that goes into sustaining a relationship: compatibility, respect, kindness and responsibility to name just a few. It is possible to truly love someone and still know they are not right for you.
Sometimes, even if you love someone, you can realize that the relationship isn’t right, or sustainable, or even healthy at that time. Whether it’s goodbye forever or just until both parties are ready, sometimes you need to let go of the one you love. Sometimes, it’s the best, most considerate thing you can do for them, as well as yourself.
Things change, people change, life changes.
Love can be said to be a chemical-induced construct, interpreted in an emotional way. New love is a dopamine high intended to help perpetuate the species. After a certain amount of time, say, four to seven years, a new offspring is usually able to be somewhat independant, and at that time (whether they have a child or not), many couples naturally part ways so they can dance the procreation dance with another partner. In the past, this made for a more genetically stable and diverse population, the success of which is why people still often live out this pattern in the modern day.
