Can spam text messages sent to my cell be blocked?

Asked by BronxLens (1539points) January 2nd, 2009

What’s the best way to stop these sporadic text messages? Just received one saying “Your (blank) confirmation code is “tile”. What is the best action to follow upon their receipt? My service is with Sprint, and I am using an older (1 yr) Blackberry.

Yes, just call your service provider. :)

Is it from SprintFreeMsg or something? If it is, I get those too. You are not alone.

In the past when I’d receive spam messages, I’d just reply “STOP” and it’d actually work most of the time. I’d get a followup text stating that I’d no longer receive messages from so-and-so.

I guess “STOP” is a pretty standard command for such a thing.

good luck

STOP only works when you subscribed to the messages your receiving(even if you don’t think you subscribed to them), downloading one song via text, one horoscope, weather update, anything like that automatically signs you up for 3rd party services

cough cough may be able to get a credit to cover some of the charges cough

“STOP” shall stop any subscription by law, that’s how it is in Norway, not sure about the US.

I just found this thread on how to unsubscribe from Sprint’s “SPRINTFREEMSG” spam text messages:

Worked for me, and hope it works for you!
