Favorite Bushism?

Asked by jonsblond (44203points) January 2nd, 2009 from iPhone

Here we are, 18 days away from Bush leaving office. We all have a favorite quote from the past 8 years, don’t we? My personal favorite: “I know what I believe. I will continue to articulate what I believe and what I believe- I believe what I believe is right”. What is yours?

“OBGYN’s are getting out of the business of practicing love with women…...”

Jacob Weisman of Slate.com has been collecting them. Sadly he has enough for a book.

@ gailcalled
good link

I remember hearing about one when he said “I know that it is hard to put food on your children.” he said it somewhere in New Hampshire.
Poor Bush. Don’t you all kill me, but I think that he was a good president, but made the wrong decisions.

Was hoping for a quicker response, or maybe I am just being impatient . May I add another? “I think-tide turning-see, as I remember- I was raised in the desert, but tides kind of- it’s easy to see a tide turn- did I sat those words?”

jonsblond's avatar

Too late to edit my response, meant “say those words?”.

Here’s a fun idea. After reading each Bushism, play a round of this great game. It will really cheer you up. My best early score is 6.

“This would be a lot easier if this was a dictatorship (laughs) especially if I was the dictator.”

Reading that, I realize that’s more scary than funny to me…

This isn’t really a Bushism, but in 2006 W. was asked during an interview with a German magazine, “what accomplishment are you most proud of as president?”

Bush responded that it was catching a finch at the lake near his house.

“Karen is with us today. I like her. She’s a nice Texan Girl, just like me.”

When he was having a ‘town hall’ discussion with the mother of the disabled child who was so proud of supporting her family with 3 jobs. Bush congratulated her saying “that’s the American way” Totally clueless!!!

And I liked it better when Democrats had sex scandals and Republican politicians were financially corrupt. Bush always seemed to be grabbing and kissing female diplomats or patting women’s butts. It seems kind pervy. Maybe he does think OB/GYNs do share their love with their patients-along with his other adolescent fantasies

I read a bunch of the Bushisms, courtesy of Gail’s excellent link. Two favorites:

“A lot of times in politics you have people look you in the eye and tell you what’s not on their mind.”—Sochi, Russia, April 6, 2008

“And there is distrust in Washington. I am surprised, frankly, at the amount of distrust that exists in this town. And I’m sorry it’s the case, and I’ll work hard to try to elevate it.”— Speaking on National Public Radio, Jan. 29, 2007

When he was explaining Condoleezza Rice’s role…

“The role of the national security adviser is to not only provide good advice to the president, which she does on a regular basis, but her job is also to deal inter-agency and to help unstick things that may get stuck. That’s the best way to put it. She’s an unsticker.”

With Rice, arms crossed in front of her chest, watching from the sidelines, Bush added, to laughter: “Is she listening? OK, well, she’s doing a fine job.”

You really have to watch it to get the full effect. He’s kind of leaned over the podium with his right hand moving in a circular motion like he’s trying to will the right word from his brain. I can’t find the video, but lurve for anyone who can ;) We’ve all had that moment, but not introducing a member of our staff.

I remember it because it’s funny and it’s the moment I realized I cared a lot more about politics than I thought.

Apparently Bush was a good debater back in the day.

Trustinglife's avatar

Wow, zack. That was really enlightening. Amazing to see how Bush talked 10 years ago!!! And how different it is from now. Check out that video, people!

“I’m the decider.”

jholler's avatar

That video is kind of eye-opening…I don’t know enough neurology to agree or disagree with “Pre-senile dementia”, but it does seriously give evidence for some kind of degenerative neurological condition, rather than just plain idiocy. Don’t you feel bad for mocking the disabled? ;-)

Yeah nuculer is original. My science teacher says it like that. Doesn’t he go “nucler” not “nucular”?

mangeons's avatar

My fourth grade teacher would say ‘nuculer’ and ‘illregular’... it was really annoying.

90s_kid's avatar

ways to say nuclear:
nuclear
nucler
nucular
nucleer

any others?

marinelife's avatar

@Mtl_Zack Great input as always! That video was really remarkable. Thanks for sharing.

@syz, those were good. I read that list, and here’s my favorite:

“Thank you, Your Holiness. Awesome speech.” April 16, 2008, at a ceremony welcoming Pope Benedict XVI to the White House.

At least he didn’t get confused by His Holiness’ outfit and pat him on the butt

@galileogirl: I would be honored to be confused with you any day.
