Legal issues around mixtapes?

I’m thinking about making a weekly/monthly mixtape for my blog. Where I simply just put together 10 – 15 songs I’ve been circulating the last week/month.
Can I end up in trouble with record companies etc. with this?
Would it be less illegal if it was a podcast?

Did some research, it’s very illegal to anybody who’s wondering.
After the SIRA act of ‘06.
I was going to ask you if you read this but I wasn’t sure how much it applied to a blog. It’s a shame, though. Seems to me it’s not the artists that mind, rather the record labels, etc.
I was going to say the same thing that peedub said…Muxtape was essentially that same idea (read the announcement on his website), bit perhaps publishing an iMix in iTunes could be another way to do this? Each playlist publishe in iTunes is basically an “album” of songs custom made by the iMix author, whereby the songs can be audiotioned and purchased legally as a playlist or individually (a la carte). Each iMix published has an XML tag, so that you can link to it from your blog.
To create the XML link, simply drag the last directory from the directory tree in iTunes, onto your desktop, and the address is saved as an XML link.
You can PM me if you need help trying this out.
How much traffic does your blog get. If its not too big, then I doubt it will ever be on the radar of the Labels. Plus, I’m pretty sure that they have to issue a takedown notice before they can press charges…
The playlist thing on iTunes is genius. A legal way to share your tunes.
