You would need some sunlight or a growlight to grow any poppies. Poppies are beautiful flowers and you will enjoy
them, but if you are hoping to
harvest any opium plan on
planting several thousand
plants. Better just to enjoy the poppies. :)

Yeah, then you can make heroin and sell it on the Internet!

You would need sunlight, or artificial sun light to grow any kind of plant. GrowLux light bulbs or the equivalent, (available at hardware or “big box” stores).
It is my understanding that it is not legal to grow the Opium poppy here, in the US. Check the laws where you are- and the likely punishment if you are caught.

My grandma grows poppies in her yard. But I don’t know if it’s possible to grow them indoors.

Many kinds of poppies, many different growing zones. I can grow Oriental poppies but not California or Icelandic ones, for example.

And you can grow many indoor plants in indirect sunlight (Impatiences and certain begonias will flower all winter long, for example).

When my mom planted poopies, the petals were gone within an hour. They are pretty, but I don’t like them because of that.

@gail: “impatiens”, both singular and plural. Gotcha.

@90s: petals fall once they’re cut. Put a chair next to them in the yard. Enjoy.

susanc: ya got me. Is that now everyone’s new hobby? Speaking of which, what is the singular of those lovely CA. poopies?

Oh, Gail.

I resisted this all day, but if my mom was planting poopies in the garden, the death of some flowers would be my least concern.

Dave; Resistance is futile. Succumb, succumb.

Sometimes it’s like shooting fish in a bucket.

@Gail: It sure is my new hobby. Sadly, I can’t practice it enough to make me
really happy, because you hardly ever offer an opening.

Poopy indeed. Great catch.

Ooops. I did that, too.
