The only pigeons I see are the big adult ones… I have never seen a regular pigeon that is, lets say, sparrow size.
I am pretty sure they don’t hatch that big

They nest in the gargoyles of the big office buildings until they are ready to fly and/or poop on commuters.
Well, son, when a man pigeon and a lady pigeon love each other in a special way….
Living in NYC, I had the same question. A lifelong Manhattanite gave me the answer. The mommy and daddy pigeons commute into the city each day. The baby pigeons stay in Jersey and Long Island.
Pigeons are good at keeping the chicks out of the public eye until they’re fully fledged. Their nests are typically on high ledges, so, unlike nests in trees, they’re not easily seen from the ground.
Because pigeons are ground feeders, the chicks would be especially vulnerable to attack until they’re competent fliers. Until then, the parent provides room service in the form of a partially digested “milk”.
Unlike most other birds, fully-fledged juveniles of the pigeon and dove family look very much like adults. They don’t have distinguishing plumage and are similarly proportioned. Here’s a good picture of a pigeon chick that shows how they look well before they leave the nest.
I suppose it’s good that they stay out of the public eye!!!
That is one ugly fucking bird, Harp.
@knot: Damn it! I was about to link to that, I just had to find it. Grr! But I win, I have video!
There are baby pigeons. They’re just hiding in fear because people think they’re so tasty!
You’ve probably never seen baby pigeon on a menu, but you’ve seen squab, right?
Same thing. Just a fancier name.
Plus they’re city birds, so they’re pretty good at hiding from city assholes.
What state did pigeons come from?
^Animals existed long before humans set up imaginary turf lines.
Most pigeons in cities are rock doves. They like cities because the buildings resemble cliffs, their original native habitat. Here’s the WiKipedia article.
