Is there a way to filter RSS feeds for certain topics?

Asked by justin (179points) January 6th, 2009

If I wanted to know when certain papers or blogs wrote about certain topics, is there a way to do that? Google news is too broad – I want to know regionally. And RSS subscriptions would require me to sort through myself, right?

Yahoo Pipes might be what you are looking for.

That looks promising. Thanks!

You could set up a couple Google Alerts to help you. For instance, you could set it to send you a weekly e-mail of all new occurrences of search terms that would give you what you were looking for. For instance, if you wanted notice about what that maple syrup smell in NYC, you could set up a couple alerts to make sure you caught what you were looking for: “maple syrup new york -pancakes”, and “maple smell ny”.

Google alerts are handy, just bust our your Google fu, choose how often you’d like to be notified, and you’re good to go.

+1 for Yahoo! Pipes, I’ve been using that with great success.

Also, often weblogs have the possibility to tag posts, and often when you’re browsing a specific tag you can just tack ”/feed” at the end of the URL to get the feed for just that tag.
