Fluther is a site where you can ask questions and get answers from people who see the questions and respond, hopefully with good answers based in actual expertise.
Google is a web search engine that searches the Internet for every site they can get that matches your search query. It’s more automated than Fluther, which is more of a social networking site than a search engine.
I’m a real person. Google ain’t.
The only real similarity between Google and Fluther are that both are websites accessible through the Internet.
Fluther is an independent community run by two people, where you can register to answer other people’s questions in a forum-style discussion. The only thing inside of Fluther are questions and answers provided by members, as such almost all of the answers are unique.
Google is an index of every website its spiders have visited and added to their database. You do not need to be registered to use it, in fact even if you are registered, you cannot affect the results Google displays other than by using a different search term or operators (such as quotes to search for an exact term, or using the minus sign to remove pages from the result set that have a certain word or phrase). Google does not provide any of the content you see, it merely links to it.
Google is a robot Fluther is people thought s and inputs.
Fluther has friends and humor:)
Fluther gives you responses to the answers as well as the question.
Yeah, I think the use of real people is probably the biggest difference.
Google for facts and links, Fluther for opinions and conversation.
I don’t talk about Google obsessively to anyone who will listen.
Fluther lets extremely smart cats chime in.
Welcome to the collective! Stick around for a while, and see for yourself :)
Laureth has the definitive answer. It would have been clearer if you mentioned what makes you ask the question.
