My bro bought himself a great big TempurPedic costing just under one million dollars. After awhile the place he slept on got a hollow (not supposed to happen). He moved to the other edge. After awhile that got a hollow. The first side stayed the way he’d left it – didn’t recover or anything. So he got five guys to come over and help him flip his TempurPedic, which weighed just under one million pounds. After awhile his sleeping body made a hollow on one side. He moved over; that side hollowed. Now he sleeps on a Serta. It’s fine.
My wife and I have had a tempurpedic for over a year now. We still wake up an say the world would be a better place if everyone slept on that mattress.
It was probably just my brother’s bad karma. He never tried to
switch to the Serta till he was forced to. He loved all four of the parts of the TP he slept on.
I sent this question to Hawaii_Jake, who used to sell mattresses. He is our resident expert.
As someone who worked in the hotel business for 30 years, I can tell you this: Mattresses fall into what I call “The Goldilocks Syndrome”. Some are too hard, some are too soft, and some are just right. It all depends upon the perspective of the individual.
My advice is to try both the Tempur-Pedic and Serta. I’ve only slept on the former once (for a week’s stay) and it wasn’t to my liking, but many people swear by them. The hotel chain I worked for did an extensive study on mattresses and found that the majority of their customers loved the Serta mattress the company chose. It was quite shocking how many of our customers complained about how comfortable the mattress was…they didn’t want to get out of bed. Here is a link to the mattress information.
