Do you care about your carbon footprint? If yes, how much would you spend to eliminate it? What would you want as proof?

I care enough to make changes when they are relatively easy (i.e. fit reasonably into my lifestyle or timely (e.g. when it’s time to get a new car). In recent years, I
racked up 30,000 miles in a 94 SUV for a year and half while pursuing a long distance relationship, and now that we’re in the same town, we are doing a lot of traveling. I’ve also done two years without a car (as an adult), and more recently subscribed to wind generated electricity , because my bill wasalready cheap.

So, I would spend what I felt like I could afford to reduce it. I wouldn’t be much more interested than an eyeballing of the results, since that’s about as much effort as I put into watching my checking account.

After experiencing much angst over these kinds of issues, I have to say that I no longer allow them to take precedence over my own happiness.

I definitely care. I have changed all my light bulbs and switched to wind powered electricity too (like kevbo). It’s a few dollars more a month, but I definitely find that it’s worth it. I don’t own a car, but try to rent a Prius whenever I need to drive, and would be willing to play slightly more for it, even though I usually don’t have to. But I’m not willing to drop the cash on carbon-offset airlines like SilverJet. Those tickets are just too expensive in comparison with regular airlines. So, I guess that’s where I draw the line.

As for proof, I’m not sure. Some statistics on the receipt would probably do it for me. Honestly, I’m probably not going to do much verifying and will probably believe whatever’s on there. But there’s definitely a ‘feel good’ factor in seeing some relevant information on the bill when you make the purchase.

Solar energy. Lightbulbs. Less bags. Walk and bike when possible. Less beef.

Not nearly enough. I suck.
