Should he donate to Locks of Love?
My oldest son has relatively long hair, it comes down to his shoulders and he doesn’t want to get it cut. He has mentioned that he would like to keep growing it until it is long enough to donate to Locks of Love. I really like that he wants to do that, but in order to donate he has to have ten inches of hair – that is really long hair on a ten year-old boy. Would you let/encourage your son to do it?

I would definitely let him do it! Hairstyle is not a permanent thing, so I’m for a little freedom there with my kids. I encourage them to have a decent style, but I don’t force it.
If he is ten years old and already that thoughtful and caring then you need to quit worrying and pat yourself on the back. You’re a great parent. I only have 7 hairs on my head but would grow them 100’ long to help such a noble cause.
Absolutely. Like Blondesjon said, it’s amazing that a ten-year-old is already thinking of helping people, so I would definitely encourage the behavior. At the same time, you’re also letting him know that it’s okay to be an individual and have personal style. Good thing, all around. :)
Sure, if anyone gives him funny looks what does it matter? Explain to him that he’s doing something good for another child, to hell with what other people think. If you want.
Just be sure to research them thoroughly, and look into a few other charities as well that do similar work. Not all of them fit everyone’s ideologies.
Without a doubt. My neice was about 7 or 8 (maybe 6) when she did it.
I think that the lessons he learns will be invaluable if he goes ahead with this. If I had a son, and he wanted to grow and donate his hair, I would feel so proud.
As would I. I was very proud of my neice when she did it and made sure to tell her.
