Do you need music to enjoy yourself?

When I get a chance to spend some time outdoors, I enjoy the quiet, the sounds of birds, the wind, frogs and an occasional coyote. My husband would rather have his favorite music playing. We need to find a happy medium or one of us will be unhappy. When you spend time outdoors, do you need music? Or do you enjoy the sounds of nature? Just curious…

No, I never take music or electronic devices when I’m outside.
Stop asking good questions.
DEFINITELY.
I hate new millenium music, but I LOVE 90S MUSIC.
Nope, I can enjoy myself a capella!
Depends on my mood, I can go either way.
She kinda answered this one for me. What can I say? I like a soundtrack.
I like music when I’m doing repetitive tasks, to stay motivated. I listen to Pandora while working on databases, Talking Heads while cleaning house, and classical music on the solar powered radio while weeding the garden. Not an iPod person…
Not always. When I’m outdoors, I do prefer the sounds of nature. I don’t need headphones when hiking.
But at home, working or doing chores, music helps. Driving in the car? iPod through the car speakers, almost always (otherwise, it’s NPR).
I used to always have music on, but sometimes I find it distracts me from my task (whether it be writing a paper or having a conversation). So, no, I don’t need music to have fun.
I don’t hike. I wonder what I’d listen to if I did.
@alfreda…love-building on fire and sugar on my tounge are great songs. I really enjoy Talking Heads.
I don’t always need music when I’m outside. I like to just lay in my backyard at night sometimes and look at the stars and listen to the wind. It’s pretty calming. (My phone also has an app that finds constellations as I scan the sky.. it’s pretty neat.)
When I’m in my room I have music playing almost 100% of the time.. when I’m not sleeping.
When I’m outside I usually never listen to music. The only time I do is when I’m doing something somewhat boring, like working.
But if I’m spending time in the great outdoors I never listen to music.
I don’t need music in the great outdoors. I devote time solely to listen to music, though, like when I get a new album. I also use my iPod when I work out, when doing chores and while on the train.
I actually have to say that when I am outdoors, I sometimes just look around without music…but most of the time yeah…90’s music.
I live very much in my head, and appreciate silence (or nature sounds). Pretty much the only time I want music on is when I’m alone in the car (though most often not even then) and when I’m cleaning the house.
The music itself mean a lots of.I could not set my self on a best mode without it….....I am chooseing a songs..
When you can really get away, nature is best experienced without a musical soundtrack. But, when I am working in the yard I will often don the earbuds. The natural sounds in my yard are dogs barking, cars starting and my neighbor’s music.
@loser yea
I have an obsession.
Depends where I am outside. If I’m in my backyard during summer and I’m relaxing, I love to play music.
But if I’m going on a hike or something like that, I definitely prefer the sound of nature.
I don’t need a soundtrack, but I often enjoy one. A lot of it depends on who is with me and what I’m doing… If I have a group of friends with me, music could just be distracting, but if it’s just me and a significant other, music could be nice in the background…
Depends on how I’m feeling. Sometimes it’s nice to just appreciate the sounds that are around me that are disconnected from the man made world. Other times however I use music as a link. There are certain musical artists I listen to who bring back vivid memories of past times. Jean Michel Jarre reminds me of my time in Italy, Boards of Canada reminds me of a holiday in Yorkshire and so on and so forth.
I need music to live. Period.
the sounds of nature are or is the music of the world as music is the language of the world.
Oh no, you never interupt the sound of nature with music, if your outside experiancing it. Music is for a different environment, not in nature. But music is sooo important as well. I myself would not live if i could experiance music..But i have a feeling your man is only using the musaic for background noise..not music for the art.
