Do you like everything besides country?

old school stuff that just makes you wanna dance and feel “the funk!”

ohio players
james brown
parliament
funkadelic
earth wid and fire
bootsy collins

add these to your collection and you will be hooked as well as mystified by the nostalgic sounds…

charliecompany34's avatar

… and isaac hayes the “chocolate chip” album.

don’t know your taste in music, but if you play it, it will turn heads…

and, well, set the mood for whatever…

charliecompany34's avatar

@jmah: keep in mind, this is music that was played by real live bands. no electronics. real meter. skilled musicians that played stuff for real. your mind has to be open…

amaze your friends at parties with this stuff…

roy ayers
average white band
70s elton john
chicago
steely dan

A little bit of everything (some country), love blues and funk (thanks, Charliecompany – will definitely check them out), but electronica is more of what I’m looking for. I just bought some DJ Mita www.myspace.com/mitaarmando
(Quebec) and some Lydia Prim www.myspace.com/lydiaprim.

New old music? Electronica, huh?
Brian Eno “Before and After Science,” “Another Green World,” “Music for Films,” “Taking Tiger Mountain”
Jean-Michel Jarre “Equinoxe”
Kraftwerk “Autobahn”

Been checking out everyone’s suggestions. Thanks!

Three of my favorite albums:

Dispatch – Silent Steeples
Citizen Cope – The Clarence Greenwood Recordings
Jack Johnson – Thicker Than Water Original Soundtrack

Note: That’s the only good Cope album. All of Dispatch is good. And, if you like Jack Johnson, you might be interested in G Love and Special Sauce. Good groove to most of that stuff.

@jonsblond lurve for OCMC! I just watched them on Austin City Limits. They are awesome. My suggestion is Ray Lamontagne. His new one, Gossip in the Grain or Till the Sun Turns Black.

jonsblond's avatar

@jmah- seriously check out Old Crow, they are a little bit of everything you mentioned, except electronica.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@jmah if your looking for electronica, then justice and ratatat are where its at.

jonsblond's avatar

@soapchef- That’s where I first noticed them about a year ago. The best!

I’ll throw my name in the hat as well.

Ugly Casanova- Sharpen Your Teeth
Neutral Milk Hotel- In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
My Morning Jacket- The Sandworm Cometh, Z
The Mountain Goats- The Sunset Tree
Kings of Leon- Aha Shake Heartbreak, Youth and Young Manhood, and any of their singles (IMO you should avoid Because of the Times and their newest album Only by the Night)
Explosions in the Sky- All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone, The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place, How Strange Innocence

+1 for AstroChuck mentioning Modest Mouse but Good News For Bad News is not even in their top 5 albums IMO…

Modest Mouse- Everywhere and His Nasty Parlour Tricks (EP), The Fruit That Ate Itself, The Moon and Antarctica,This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About
