It’s a harmonium, and you missed your chance to buy Allen’s
Ask him. (He is now known as Baba Ram Dass).http://www.ramdass.org/
I had one, but it was called a Melodica and was made by Hohner (the harmonica folks).
Harmonium it is!!!!! Thanks for the help!
Hmmm. Not so fast, hiphope.
I had originally said melodian, and there is some confusion about the relationship of a melodeon to a harmonium or an accordian. A melodeon accordian, according to Wikipedia, has push buttons instead of keys. A melodeon organ, says Wikipedia, has pedals that drive vacuum bellows, while the harmonium uses pedals to drive pressure bellows. They both look pretty much the same.
Perhaps it’s two words for the same thing. I’m not clear on which one Ginsberg had and they both look the same. The difference is on the inside.
PS, Harp was the first one to say harmonium. I had said melodian until I did further research. Now I don’t know which is true.
@gailcalled- How do you ask someone who’s had pennies on his eyes for over ten years?
@AstroChuck: Unless- Ohm – he has transmogrified into another body, he’s is still here now. From his web page; http://www.ramdass.org/January 2009
“Dear Ram Dass friends and satsang,
Ram Dass is recovering well from his fall in November and subsequent hip surgery, thanks to the love, support, and prayers of our global satsang community…”
Oh, of course. How could I have not known that?
Pretty sure Ginsberg died in ‘97, but I bet Harp is pointing that out right now.
Baba was never Ginsburg, but he did used to be Richard Alpert. They both looked a bit like Ginsburg. They are both still alive.
Susanc; that ‘s it. Richard Alpert. They were screwing around w. LSD when they were in the psych. dept at Harvard when I was working at the Observatory. It was hard to tell them apart them.
@susanc- No, they aren’t both still alive. Ginsberg has been dead since 1997.
@chuck: No, no, I don’t mean Ginsburg is alive. I know he’s gone, alas. I mean
both Alpert and Baba are still alive. (I assume Alpert is hidden in Baba’s great beingness
somewhere.)
There’s a kid on my floor in my dorms at school who play a harmonium and melodica at ridiculous hours of the night… It is nuts.
@Tits:Maybe he’s at one with Baba.
Now, where is Timothy Leary?
Leary’s in the Cosmos,
grooving on the flow.
Alpert’s in the ashram,
here and now.
Ginsberg’s in the ether,
howling with the men,
Snyder’s in the forest,
canny and Zen.
Levertov is still annoyed.
Ferlinghetti’s old.
Sexton’s gone, and Plath is dead,
But all their words are gold.
