USB Key Encryption: How?

Asked by tonedef (3935points) January 13th, 2009

I downloaded and installed TrueCrypt on my Mac for the purpose of keeping all of my files encrypted, but it seems that you have to install TrueCrypt on every computer you wish to mount the drive on (besides using the portable windows truecrypt).

Does anyone else use TrueCrypt? Is there any way around this sort of annoying requirement? Are there any viable, user-friendly alternatives to encrypting a USB key’s contents? Any help is great. :)

I don’t recall how. But I am pretty sure you can run TrueCrypt from the USB drive. Google for it. You should find something.

It may not work for MAC, but check out ericsprojects.com and search “autorun truecrypt”. I’d post the link but iPhone is still too cool for copy and paste.

Thanks, iJim. I found a windows portable version of TrueCrypt, and I copied the Mac application on it. I hope that I can run that app without installing it on other Macs…

I am actually really happy with TrueCrypt now, and see its value beyond simply encrypting USB drives. This is really heavy duty, it seems like they designed it for people who were going to be interrogated.
