Dare I propose: Fluther meet-up Wash DC Jan 20th?

I’m taking the train down in the morning, freezing on the mall, party at a law firm on Pennsylvania Ave, and then taking the train back late afternoon. I have to be back at work the next morning. I’m in DC a couple of times a year for the great art exhibits. Maybe next time.

Awwww, no fair to meet up on my home turf when I won’t even be in town. You all are very brave to head into the crowds; I’m sure it will be very exciting, albeit very taxing from a transportation point of view. Have fun, without me.
**As an aside: I would carry nothing loose on your person except maybe your camera. Anything important should be in your front pockets. The fast-fingers will be out in force.

@mcbealer – Wow! You are optimistic to not only brave the inauguration throngs but also attempt to meet up with folks you’ve never seen in a town packed to the gills with out-of-towners. And in the winter to boot! Good luck!

Oh, I wish I could do a meet up. I am all booked up on the 19th and 20th unfortunately. I’m pretty much going from sunrise to sunrise both days. :-(

But I’d love to some other time. :)

You could not PAY ME to go any closer to DC than Jersey (since that’s where I live). I had the unfortunate experience to be in DC for Bush’s last inauguration (I was there for something else) and it was hell on Earth! There were extremely smelly, stinky people everywhere, presumably from sleeping in their cars or somewhere else with no shower, and that morning when I stupidly went out to get coffee, I was caught in a riot, shoved by cops into a wall, hit with a stick, nearly teargassed, and almost arrested.

Throw the KKK into that mix… I have no doubt they’ll be there in full force as well… and I’ll watch the inauguration on TV, thankyouverymuch.

I live near enough to go to DC, but no way in hell I’m going on the 20th! I could not handle the crowds and chaos :( However, you are cordially invited to drop in on me in Martinsburg, WV after the festivities. If you’re staying overnight maybe we could meet up close to DC on the day before or after.
