Mid-west Fluther meetup?
Inspired by McBealer’s attempt to meet folks during the inauguration (good luck!).
I’m all for planning a mid-west Fluther meetup in Chicago if people post interest. If you want to attend, I’d say post your favorite weekend between now and the end of February discounting holiday weekends and whenever the Super Bowl is and we’ll go from there.
I’m willing to plan the get together (reserve space at an eatery or what have you) if there is interest. We can also decide what we want to do.
Ideally, now someone on the West coast will speak up with their own question…

Awesome, wish I didn’t live 2000 miles away. I’d be there already.
Aww, I’m way too far away! Can we do it in Florida?
hmm probably the best weekend would be the one that has MLK day that follows it on like tuesday for people who have classes and work its easier. I would be interested if we could get enough people to go
If you’d move it to Minneapolis/St. Paul, I’d be there…I have almost zero vacation time and even less money, and what little I have of both of those are already getting spent on a trip to Vegas at the end of February. Normally Chicago would be a very attractive option for me however!
dalepetrie’s response made me wonder if there would be any advantage to planning it, say a year ahead? At any rate, long enough in advance that people could plan for it financially and fit it into their schedules. Just wondering.
I think if people enough people show interest, we can decide to plan it further in advance than this. So far? Not a lot of interest. Also if a bunch of people say another place is better, we can do it there (though I’m only offering to coordinate in Chicago).
damn it! My friend was at the Shakespeare Theatre on Navy Pier doing Edward II not long ago. had this been brought up a while ago, I would’ve surely gone.
@richardhenry- What atlas are you using? You are more than 3 times that distance. I’m closer to 2000 miles away from Chicago here in California.
And I always thought Europeans knew more about geography than Americans.
I’m in Chi-town…I’d be in.
@AstroChuck I was thinking that. Just to let you know, me and Richard live in the same town, and I knew that. Richard is the exception to the rule, that proves it’s true then :)
Also, I’m going to be in Chicago airport for 2 hours on February 17th :P
If it’s O’Hare, I’m willing to bet you’ll be there 3 hours at least.
@EmpressPixie Well if that happens, then I get my flight paid for :)
I think I’ll arrive, be checked once and carry on through. Customs in America is horrible, but I have to do it!
I was more commenting on O’Hare’s amazing ability to delay any flight I want to take. Add that to our awesome weather (yesterday: snow, today: snow, tomorrow: just guess) and you get some pretty ridiculous waits. I figured since you said 2 hours, you meant a layover, oops!
I’ll be arriving, getting off a plane, and probably going straight through into departures after I’ve left customs. If I have to pick up my bag again then it’ll be a quick drop off. And I shouldn’t have to check-in again coz I’ll have done that in Manchester.
But like I said, if I’m delayed by anything that’s not my fault, then I’ll get a new flight sorted.
Depending on the day I could be swayed to make a trip to Chicago. I do it practically every day anyway. Seeing fellow Flutherites would make the trip so much more enjoyable.
I really can’t plan a trip this fast. My days are booked for awhile. The best meet up time would be sometime during the summer, IMO, just so people don’t have to worry about driving in the horrible weather that has been going on these days. A road trip down to Chicago would be so much more enjoyable if it was a nice weather. Plus I don’t think del, trumi and lefteh would be free until summer either. Us four could probably carpool to Chi over summer. Maybe you can hold your meet up and we could just have another one in summer? Either way, great idea, and take pictures! I’ll be happy to help you coordinate the meet if done over summer.
