I get horrible horrible cramps with my period. Try IcyHot (or any other kind of muscle relaxant cream) on your abdomen and lower back. Take a hot shower. Do something to take your mind off of it, like a good movie or book. Eat some chocolate. If sitting still (movie, book) still hurts, trying to keep moving. A lot of times minor forms of continuous exercise helps a lot.
Good luck, and feel better!

@tocutetolive90 How much Advil did you take and when did you last take it?

I have cramps today and am taking 600mg about every 6 hours. It is working just fine for me…

If you are only taking 200mg (one pill) you may want to try a wee bit more, presuming you have no medical issues that would prevent you from doing so….

do you have an electric blanket? Roll it up and put it on your belly… hot water bottle… hot shower… sleep/sit curled up.

Ice your back at the T-4 level.. That’s just above your waist and under your bra strap. That helps some people.

i don’t have an electric blanket. . i will try as hot shower\ ice pack. i hope it works. my period is irregular and i lost my pill to regulate it, i have it now, but i had to wait till it came to start it again. i haven’t gotten it in 2 months. so its hitting hard this time.

i take about 2–3, just doesnt work

I would still keep taking the advil, w/out it the pain could be worse. Heat works best for me….

Ginger or ginger tea helps ease discomfort for some as well…

Hang in there :(

Take a hot shower and then fill a water bottle with hot water and press it on your abdomen. Also, sometimes a mixture of heat and pressure works, especially to sleep. Whenever I have bad cramps, I sleep on my stomach with either a heating pad under me on low, or with my hand resting on my abdomen, pressing against it a little bit. This is basically the only way I can sleep with cramps.

Hope you get to feeling better!

In the future, get some of those heat wraps that you can wear under your clothes. I used to wear them at work & they help, also.

Aleve, if you’re OK with sodium naproxen, will stop cramps in their tracks. And heat wraps just feel wunnerful, so I’m co-signing on those!

Some say that masturbation/orgasm helps.

Also, there are some yoga positions that might help. In a yoga class, I learned this one that is supposed to help: Crouch down so that your knees are bent and legs are spread. Your feet should touch the ground on just the toes and the balls of the feet. This should take the pressure off of your pelvic area and abdomen. Breathe deeply for a while. (Sorry, if this explanation is confusing. Let me know if you need me to explain it better.)

Put 2 cups of rice in a stray sock, knot the end and pop it into the microwave, and blast it for 1.5 – 2 minutes. Shake to distribute the heat. Put a wet paper towel on your abdomen, and lay the rice sock on top of it.

I know this sounds goofy, but it stays hot for a long time, and the weight is really a nice feeling. It’s good for neck pains.

@AlfredaPrufrock: That is a great idea!

It stays really hot for some time.

Here are some things that have worked for me.
Acetaminophen.
Hot bath, as hot as you can stand it.
Walking slowly on a treadmill (so you’re always near enough to a bathroom)
Getting on the floor and stretching.
Coffee (the caffeine is a mild diuretic and can take a small amount of pressure off)
Red wine—not a lot but a glass or two.
