Do you want a pet you can play with or a pet that stays put (in a tank or whatever)?

Ferrets work great in appartments. They can be a little harder to manage than most pets and require supervision when out of their cage, but they can be a lot of fun.

The answer depends on what kind if lifestyle you lead. Are you home a lot? Are you out a lot? Are you sporty and active, or do you like to stay in? A lot of animals can live in apts.

Goldfish. You don’t have to worry about a pet deposit or your landlord getting pissed. They also don’t smell that bad. It’s also not as sad when they pass away which they do about every five days or so.

Hampsters or Guinea Pigs take up little space, don’t need to be walked, eat scraps and can be petted.

My Aunt, who worked for 20+ years for NorthWest Airlines, was offered her last 5 years to work out of Hawaii. They set her up in a condo, booste in salary etc. Upon arrival, she noticed they didn’t have window screens. Why? She didn’t know. Anyways, She moves in. In the middle of the night, she awoke hearing some funny scurring noises about the rooms. Being from Minneapolis; MN, and unfamiliar with reptiles and their behavior, She freaks out seeing several Lizards = “Geckoes” crawling about the walls and throughout her expensive aboad. Upon contacting the management of this hideous ordeal, she learns that it is standard policy to supply every condo with fresh lizards. Seems that they eat the spurious bugs that populate the tropical environment of our exotic island state. The Lizards are a natural exterminating method used for a long time, with positive results. Well, my midwestern Aunt, promptly scadazzaled back to Minnesota, where Lizards are not so prevelent and spent her remaining years in blissful peace.
Therfor, My choice for an Apartment Pet would be, A nice 8 year old Komodo Dragon. Why?
Who needs a dumb ass security company with such a “Guardian” as that? My First choice,.... a mild mannered Lizard.

I’m not at home a lot except on weekends.. I go to school and some days I spend a lot of time there and come back at eight o clock. Also, Im kind of an indoors gal…A lizard would be nice but they are not as fun!!! They just stare blankly… Are ferrets good? I liked the review I got

Hamsters are cool. Plus, you can stick them in those little balls!

Ferrets are so much fun! Unfortunately what most people don’t realize is that they require a lot more care than say a hamster or a guinea pig. They have to have atleast 3 hours out of their home/cage a day. If they don’t get atleast 3 hours of play time a day then the owner will suffer the consequences by way of destruction or health problems for the animal.

Leopard Gecko.

AND LIZARDS DO NOT STARE BLANKLY. Leopard geckos are cheerful, and curious, and amazing, and gorgeous and friendly.

If you want something with even MORE personality… get a tokay gecko. They’re constantly angry and fairly bitey.

Gave up Hawaii because of lizards? Really?

gailcalled's avatar

@vanslonski: That was a funny story but what is a “spurious bug?” (And sorry, but you mean “skedaddled“and “olĂ©.”-)

May2689's avatar

@delirium : hahaha sorry!! I just picture lizards inside their cage doing nothing! Do you take the lizard out and let it walk around or what?

dlm812's avatar

A cat or a ferret would be good for a more interactive pet without the normal walking, playing, etc. that say, a dog, would require. That is, as long as you don’t mind cleaning a litter box, because both would need one. Also, guinea pigs or a chinchilla would be good choices because they can be happy in a cage most of the day, but then will play and run about if you let them out when you get home.

Good luck with your search!

You take it out and let it crawl on you. They’re really sweet things. **seeks video**

Bearded dragons are also wonderful, but slightly less easy to take care of than the leopard gecko.

(If you’re ever thinking of a reptile, just contact me and i’ll talk you through getting a good setup to keep your baby happy and alive.)

Ps. Never confuse Tokay geckos with Leopard Geckos.
Tokays are bitey.

Wow! Now I’m thinking about getting one!!!

Leopards are wonderful. They are probably the best beginners playpet lizard on the market right now. Look up the color morphs they come in. They’re absolutely mindblowingly gorgeous.

http://www.leopardgeckowiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Category:Morphs&from=A That’s the best list i’ve found. Check out ones like Black Velvet and the ilk. Goooorgeous. They’re one of the only geckos with eyelids. Sometimes nicknamed eyelash geckos.

They are adorable!!!!!!

Give up Hawaii because of Gecko’s? You have got to be joking . I hve lived both in Hawaii and Guam and trust me after a few days you do not notice them, besides they are so much better to have around than the spiders they eat. LOL your poor Aunt she never even gave them a chance.
