Wondering how many plane tickets cancellations there will be.

No, because it’s still statistically safer to fly.
I assume you are referring to the crash in NY today and in an odd way hearing about this particular crash makes me less afraid to fly because it proves that it’s possible to survive. We almost always hear of plane crashes ending badly but in just a short time we’ve had two (Denver and NY) that ended with no lives lost.
No I agree with queenz, but seeing a pilot at the bar sure makes me a bit weezy. Good point futurecopgirl!!
When you hear about a fatal car accident does it make you afraid to drive?
No because they happen so incredibly rarely. I’m more likely to fly just after because hey—they don’t happen often and if one just happened, it can’t happen to me!!
Nah, I don’t think about it at all really. I know it happens, I know I will fly. I’ve known it for a really long time and the two don’t change anything about each other.
Plus, I love being on planes.
Nope, just like hearing about car crashes doesn’t make me afraid to drive.
After today I feel safer and I wish I could have that pilot every time I fly in the future because he is a badass.
You never hear about the DAILY fatal car crashes. There is much less traffic in the air and pilots have to try a lot harder to prove their a safe pilot than drivers have to prove their a safe driver. . Give me a plane any day! I fly from Bakersfield to Orange County, CA every week (weather permitting.) I feel so bad for those poor people stuck on the freeway!
Absolutely not! I fly my Cessna Cardinal a lot and have never been too concerned. I hike and when a hiker is injured, how would that change my interest in hiking. Just an unfortunate event caused by a gaggle of geese. But good….fantastic…flying skills saved their bacon.
All private pilots practice (or they should) engine out procedures regularly.
@jessturtle23 I think the term excellent or able or competent may better describe the commercial pilot then ‘badass’ (just my opinion).
Oh man, you said bacon. Now I want some delicious breakfasty treats.
Everything goes better with a little fried pig!
@cardinal: Excellent is having a perfect record, able is just that, being able to do something, and competent, to me, is being just good enough but nothing spectacular. To land a passenger jet in the Hudson river one one of the coldest days of the winter and not losing a single person is Badass.
@cardinal: Perhaps because you are a pilot you could make these same maneuvers…..I don’t know? But in my opinion it’s pretty bad ass to land a 240 ton airbus plane into water without severly injuring or killing any of your passengers.
No, it doesn’t – even when I used to fly almost every week. Now, after my car accident – I was rear ended by someone going close to 50mph, that scared me and I hated the thought of driving or riding in a car.
No, I’ve always been afraid of flying.
@loser? Really? That surprises me for some reason.
I think it has something to do with being afraid of heights. Whenever I’ve been in a plane I’ve had to convince myself that I’m just on a bus.
Does hearing about a car crash make you want to walk? Does hearing about a pedestrian getting run over and killed by a drunk driver make you want to stay in one place?
Yes. But it is illogical, because we know that it is one of teh safest things we do. Isn’t it strange how emotion can overrule logic, even when we know the facts?
