Ever since I set up an airport in my house I've had nothing but problems. What can it be?

Asked by tinyfaery (44249points) January 15th, 2009

My internet is so slow. My network randomly kicks me off. I am not computer savvy. Where should I even start? What are the possibilities?

(tic) Where do you park the planes?

That’s funny. Was I unclear? That is what it’s called, isn’t it?

What were you using before for wireless? I had lots of dead spots with Airport when I had my service through Bellsouth (ATT) but when I switched to cable, it improved remarkably, although I get kicked off the internet whenever I answer the land line phone. Of course I still have a land line; I dial my cell phone with my index finger. What do you expect?

tiny, I had some problems with my Airport Express, too. Let’s do some diagnostics.

0) What kind of Airport? Express or Extreme? Expresses are not the most reliable wireless routers, but are good to extend current networks.
1) What kind of computer are you using? There are some wireless cards that can crash airport extremes.
2) Did you have problems accessing the internet with your old, non-Apple router?
3) Can you connect to the internet through an ethernet cable plugged directly into your modem? How about plugged into the router itself?

I’m definitely having some similar problems! I’ll let you know if I find something helpful :)

Is your wireless network password protected, btdubs?
