Oh dear lord, I hope they are not staying with you. I caught my in-laws “doing it” twice the last time there were here. And, no, I did not have to peek into the guest room.

I suggest the salad bar at Ruby Tuesday’s and plenty of saltpeter.

Take them out to the coast. Ohio doesn’t have trees on the beach. I always take my parents from Colorado out there. Also, the Japanese Gardens are a good way to spend several hours. And my most important advice: keep everybody away from alcohol. None of you want anything to do with drunken arguments.

I second the coast. What is that Oregon beach town that makes the best salt water taffy? It’s been probably 35 years, please forgive me for forgetting.
The Oregon coast is the most beautiful display of power I have ever seen. Too bad they didn’t come in July or August. I’m sure there would have been a lot of fun festivals to see.

I don’t have in-laws, but my manager’s in-laws visit quite a bit, and the things that seem to be appreciated are 1) giving them time alone with their son, 2) asking their advice/opinions of things—her father-in-law is handy and retired, so she saves projects for him to do with her husband 3) If your kids are younger and in in elementary school, make arrangements to have lunch with the kids at school.

I’m going tomorrow to visit my daughter, who lives two hours away. We’re going to a specialty grocery store, I’m going to help her with her knitting, and then take her out to lunch somewhere fun.

These are great suggestions people – and Sue, yeah they are staying with us in our 1400sqft house….but they’re old! Too old…right? ...Right?

If they like to read, Powell’s Books is my very favorite activity in Portland – anyone who likes books could spend a good 4 or 5 hours there (at least!), and you’d be entertained too, instead of having to entertain them! =)

@nocountry2: there’s no such thing as “too old”. Wait and see.

@susanc: God I hope so ;)
