Most of that stuff shown in the video is standard on Ubuntu, you just have to turn it on. Go to System-Prefrences-Advanced Desktop Effects and Settings. You’ll find it all in there, you just gotta play around with it till you get it how you like. As far as the Vista theme, just do a google search for that. (Themes are really easy to apply in ubuntu).
i don’t have advanced desktop effects option i have compiz config settings manager and appearance
Go into the synaptic packet manager and do a search for compiz. Im not sure which one it is you have to dl since i got all of that a longggggg time ago, but grab “compiz-plugins” “compiz-fusion-plugins-main” and “compiz-fusion-plugins-extra” it should be one of them. Let me know how it works out.
how do you make the windows clear??
its a type of linux ( a free operatings system) would you please start a new question for more info it tends to disorganize questions and answers if you post questions on other people questions. Thanx!
its ok it just helps us all out
For the clear windows turn on the opacify setting. You may have to play around with it to get the opacity where you like it, but thats the setting you need to use.
You can already get quite far by just enabling “Extra” under the Desktop Effects (I believe it’s called that) tab in System->Preferences->Appearance.
Also, the software for the effects is Compiz which can be configured using the tool mentioned above (though it’s a bit overwhelming) – Googling Compiz will bring you far.
As for the theme, you can probably find a Vista-like theme at gnome-look.org (install it using the Appearance application I mentioned earlier).
I just installed the compiz stuff on my Ubuntu 8.10 laptop; it was no sweat although I am a total noob at Linux. It works great although I dont have a 3d card. I will play with it more as I go.Thanks for the tips, I might never have heard of this otherwise.
