What's the fastest way for me to transfer a 400mb file onto another notebook?

Asked by queenzboulevard (2553points) January 18th, 2009

I’ve done a different big file through AIM fileshare before and it took around 2 or 3 hours.

What’s the quickest way I can transfer this file?

Are the computers in the same room?

Yeah I can arrange that.

Burn a cd.

If they are on the same network you could turn on apache (web sharing) in OS X and either grab the file from the Vista box or FTP it from the Vista computer to the OS X one.

I suppose you don’t have a flash drive? You can get a small one at WalMart for pretty cheap…

In order of ease, cost, and time involved: existing USB flash drive formatted in FAT not NTFS, CD or DVD, Network sharing/FTP.

i’ve had a similar case a few days ago, i googled the web and found “filephile” (http://www.filephile.net/index.php), a cross platform software. it’s a very very basic program (not many options) but it does what it is supposed to do transfer files. it works like a peer to peer software but without the middle man server, files get sent directly from computer to computer. Just for info my downloading speeds from a distant, friends computer, go beyond 1mb.
