What remarkable and surprising factoid do you know that is guaranteed liven up dinner party conversations?

Asked by ssteward (110points) January 18th, 2009

I’m not talking about polemic stuff like politics or religion, rather stuff that would make people say “really, I never knew that!” and would then get conversation going rather than stopping it dead because you’d been a smart arse. Dazzle me with your obscure, encyclopaedic knowledge…

Christopher Guest, aside from being Nigel Tufnel and the world’s best mockumentarian, is the 5th Baron Haden-Guest, which makes Jamie Lee Curtis a Baroness. Her parents were the actors Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh.

The shape of the male penis helps to remove the semen of competing males.

or perhaps that losing an erection after sex helps males to stop removing their own sperm

or perhaps that females tend to avoid sexual intercourse after having a fling as a possible means of favouring sperm competition in the rival male.

tends to get the conversation going…. or causes stunned silence, depending on the make up of your social circle

The heads that reads the data on the hard drive inside your computer is like a 747 flying at full speed an inch over a field of grass. While counting every blade of grass.

you don’t need facts to liven up a dinner party anyway, just think of clever ways to get people to talk about them selves. Once that happens everyone usually loosens up and all kinds of topics come up.

Alexander graham Bell did not invent the telephone. The United State House of representatives declared on June 11th 2002 that bells patent for the telephone was based on “fraud and misrepresentation”. Antonio Meucci was the actual inventor.
