Do you have a living will?

Asked by cdwccrn (3620points) January 24th, 2009 from iPhone

Why or why not? Living wills help guide the people who love you in making the choices you would want in the event you can’t speak for yourself.

Yes! I also have a medical power of attorney, financial power of attorney and my husband is set up as my daughter’s guardian (he’s her stepdad), so she doesn’t get shifted to her Dad’s house, right away. he would get her, ASAP…so he didn’t have to pay support, even thought she wants to remain with my husband and her brother.

I think a living will is so important – take that time to think out those decisions. Do you want a “DNR” or do you want to be on life support? Important decisions that need to be made, are set. Your family isn’t burdened with that decision.

I also have my final wishes taken care of, too.

Very good. Living wills are really for the living, aren’t they? Making life a little easier in the midst of a very heartbreaking time.

Written, not yet notarized.

@april: don’t forget!

I’m under 18, is it too early to make one?

Yes, we both have them. Our doctor has a copy in our medical files, as is needed, & each of our daughters has a copy. The originals are in the safe with our wills.

@ark. It is too early for you to execute the legal document, but never too early to discuss your wishes with your family.

My partner and I have right of survivorship, power of attorney, wills, living wills, shared bank accounts, and Docubank, all because our relationship is not legally recognized.

Yes, I do have a living well. As a military member, we are required to complete one of these before we deploy to the Middle East. For obvious reasons.

augustlan's avatar

Not yet. I don’t even have a regular will yet. I really need to get on that.

Bluefreedom, stay well.

Thanks susan. :o)

@Bluefreedom, you’ve not gotten orders to go, have you?

Bluefreedom's avatar

We have a possible deployment in the Spring but nothing is official yet.

Ooh, Blue. Let us know, ‘k?

Bluefreedom's avatar

I’ll certainly do that.

I can’t remember. I think so. ALthough I also think it might not have been necessary, since I don’t want to have the plug pulled, unless, I suppose, I’ve been brain dead for a few weeks. Naw, I better be careful about that. Some people think I’ve been brain dead for a few years, already!

@daloon, now whoever would think that!!! ;-)
