Of course the Vampire Squid is pretty cool too.
If I, someone with little to no knowledge of zoology or biology, know of an animal, does that make it not obscure, by definition?
Hm….aardvark, anteater, Albatross!
Albatrosses have 11ft. wingspan, can glide for thousands of miles, and can sleep while flying.
Coconut crab=fake? It is creepy & looks like a spier! I have an arachnophobia!
I hate crabs and lobsters because they remind me of bugs.
[2ssEdit]: vvv @dynamicduo weird, but cool!
One of them is the bigfin squid which made the video rounds a few months ago. There are a few other deep sea creatures that make the list too. There are a lot of really weird things in that environment!
@tyrantxseries – I would wet myself if I saw one of those. To “spider” like.
GROSS!
That was cool——the whole google thing
@Bri_L
exactly!! Like spiders! And I am eating right now! gags uh oh
[2ssedit]: @tyrantxseries vvv TMI (too much info). I wouldn’t eat the for $100!!! Well, at least it isn’t an actual spider
They can grow to the size of basketballs!!!! and they taste good
@judochop! My avatar is on the list you posted. A little shrike.
Also, I would have sworn to god that the pistol shrimp is a hoax. But it’s totally not.
How about an Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) which is the proper name for a Mexican neotenic mole salamander.
Well, no one has said it yet, so I have to. I think the pushmepullyou from Doctor Dolittle is pretty obscure. :)
The only really obscure thing I’ve ever heard about is the yeti crab
@judochop cool list, though i dont see how pistol shrimp are number 2 on it. (fun fact, when pistol shrimp snap their claw shut, the heat of the bubble collapsing upon itself is roughly the same temperature as the sun)
@Bluefreedom i herd you liek mudkipz?
My vote goes towards my baby Vladimira. Shes not only got the most advanced eyes of any animal, but also the fastest strike of any animal.
hmm theres so many other bizarre animals out there…..
Jerboas or as i like to call it “KANGAROO MOUSE!”
Blob Fish LOL
Isopods THEY STOLE MY DORITOS!! and they rock
Lamprey its richardhenrys favorite animal, everyone should PM him a picture of one :P
Nautilus living fossils
Coelacanth again, living fossils.
Viper Fish RAWR
okkkkk im done now lol
The geoduck is the freakiest animal I have ever seen. Google image search it, seriously fucking freaky.
@uber: How do you find this stuff?
@Uber, I saw that pic, pretty funny. I could never eat one, it weirds me out too much.
Thread-jack @Uber, have you seen a neurologist?
The blue anole. I want one. But they’re endangered. So it’s not really obscure but tell me the last time you saw a bright blue lizard.
@KatawaGrey Me and Google are good friends :)
@gimmedat Yes, he sent me to a neurologist, ive been seeing him for the past month now, and feel probably a 30% recovery. Which is great since this is the first thing that actually worked. Hopefully i can get back to work soon :)
@onesecondregrets how about blue panther chameleons? :P though i like the this one more.
egh i meant to say the neurologist sent me to a chiropractor….it is 4am…. i should be getting sleep now :P
I always wanted a pangolin. Who wouldn’t want a the real version of sandshrew /sandslash lol :P
Good job mangeons, you just snidely showed me that you don’t know how to spell Pangolins! :D Lurve for the first ever letmegooglethatforyou backfire I’ve seen to date :)
@uberbatman See chameleon faces aren’t cute enough for me. The anoles have little heads and wandering eyes that I absolutely love. But man the color on that one is gorgeousss! And that second one, never thought tie-dye would look so good on a lizard, ahaha.
@Foolaholic
I have seen that before——scary! sorry @tyrantxseries, your gross-out record might just have been beaten
@bluefreedom
Is that a joke??? Looks like an alien!
@uberbatman
That blobfish made me laugh sooo hard! poor thing, getting laughed at all around the world…
I have seen Isopods before.
I remember I used to loooooove Pokèmon!
@90s_kid. The Axolotl is for real. I know it might look a little strange but it is an actual salamander. I honestly thought that picture of it was cute as hell. :o)
@90s_kid Yea axolotls are real, after all, where do you think mudkips came from :P. They normally dont look as cool as the one in Bluefreedoms picture though, thats the albino kind. They normally look like this.
Oh yea i agree, normal axolotls arent the most attractive animals lol.
@tonedef
Holy Crap! I just did some research on pistol shrimp. That’s really scary!
What I find most amazing is that nature thought of this before we did.
@Foolaholic i used to have one in my fish tank lol. Really id much rather get hit by one of them, than my mantis shrimp.
@uberbatman
It’s the whole temperature thing that scares me. If that hit you point blank, I can’t even imagine the pain.
The echidna comes to mind.. it’s a mammal that lays eggs, which I think is cool.
Good job mangeons, you just snidely showed me that you don’t know how to spell Pangolins! :D Lurve for the first ever letmegooglethatforyou backfire I’ve seen to date :)
what?
@uberbatman what? Now I’m all confused… :(
Oooooh… It was dynamicduo!!! Well, they have a batman icon… headdesk
go check your question :P
I saw a pistol shrimp at the fish store today, so i figured id take a picture and to give you an idea of how small they actually are dirty fingernails i know shhhh :P.
While i was there i saw my favorite kind of shrimp(that definitely bare mentioning in this question), the harlequin shrimp. Ill probably never keep one though because of their strange diet. (all they eat are starfish)
Bad bad uberbatman, you need a manicure! :P
The tapier…they’re just….weird
