Can you see the images in those "Magic Eye" pictures?

Asked by SuperMouse (30853points) January 26th, 2009

Sometimes I can see the image and sometimes I can’t. I’m not even sure how I do it when I can see the image. Can you see it?

I’ve tried various ways (crossing my eyes, looking a little off the page, trying to focus several inches further than the page…) but I can’t, can’t, can’t do it. Arrrrggggg

Yeah, but it took quite a bit of trying before I first got one. The trick is to look through the image, as if it were a window and you’re trying to see beyond it.

i never seen it, and i’ve looked at sooooooooooo many of those darn things in my life!!
i’ve tried everything, too susanc!

I couldn’t for the longest time. And then, pow, I got it. I do the trick of holding straight in front of me it with my nose touching the page and moving it very slowly and steadily away as I focus on a point beyond the page. Once I got it, it became easy ever after.

Yep, with Jeruba’s way. If you have an iPhone the Vision eye exercise app is pretty good at teaching it.

and yes, I look really stupid when I’m doing it in coffee shops and hospitals

Ohmygod! It’s like 1991 all over again!

PupnTaco's avatar

Never could. I wear glasses, dunno if that makes a diff.

@PupnTaco, so do I, so I don’t think so.

Nope – no matter what way I tried, I never could see the damn picture!

I see them almost immediately.

I can’t help but wonder why some people can see them immediately with no problem at all, some people can see them sometimes but not other times, and some people can’t see them at all!

It’s because they don’t have the joy of the Lord.

No I can’t! I have never seen one of those pictures!

OH MY GOSH!!! i saw it for the first time evvvver today!!!!!!

i went to the website you linked, supermouse, and i followed their instructions for a while, and then i saw it!!!! i saw just some lines at first, like they were the outlines of something, and then i titled the picture, to figure out where the outlines of the rest of the picture were, and then i saw the shape of a cow and a cactus and stuff, but the colors were the same as the picture i saw before. the whole thing was completely different than what i thought i was supposed to see before…

i highly recommend them. they have a picture, with two dots on top of it, and when you see them as three, you’re at the right place.

my problem before was that i was blurring my eyes, trying to look “through” the picture, like Harp’s suggestion, and most poeple had suggested to me in the past. what you need to do is put the picture so close that it touches your nose, and then focus on it, and keep focusing on it while you bring it away from your face a little bit. that’s what worked for me anyway, good luck everyone!!

“What you need is a fatty-boom-batty-blunt, and I gaurantee you’ll be seeing a sailboat, an ocean, and maybe even some of those big-titted mermaids doing some of that lesbian shit. Look at me, look at me, you sloppy bitch!”

I don’t know, maybe glasses do matter.

I wear them, and while I was struggling to focus on the image on the website linked above, my glasses slipped down and suddenly the image was completely clear. I tested it by taking my glasses on and off. It was just like that exercise at the eye doctor’s office where he asks you if slide 1 or 2 is more clear.

Neat.

I couldn’t see a thing until I tried it as Jeruba suggested, then it worked perfectly. Now I have a headache! ;p

Yep, very easily, for some reason.

When I was a kid I used to accidentally focus on screens and latticework the wrong way and focus on them overlapping. Over time I learned how to refocus my eyes in different directions and in separate positions, it’s limited but pretty easy after a while. Now I can look at magic eye images and see nothing, flick one eye off to the side a bit and presto, flick it back and it’s gone. Best of both worlds. :)

I can also play ping pong with my eyes. And touch my tongue to my nose. And wiggle my ears. I was a very bored child.

tennesseejac's avatar

@asmonet amazing….can you do all three at once?

MacBean's avatar

I can sometimes, with difficulty. I also have a hard time seeing shapes in clouds, and people’s Abraham Lincoln potato chips and Jesus on toast and Virgin Mary tortillas almost never look like Abraham Lincoln or Jesus or the Virgin Mary to me. Ink blot tests are useless. “What do you see?” ”... ... ... Ink. Sorry.”

i saw Jerry Garcia’s face on a cheeto once.
