When I press the apostrophe key on my computer while using Firefox it automatically goes to the 'Find' function (equivalent of CTRL + F). How do I turn that off?
It randomly turned itself off while typing this and I didn’t actually do anything noticeable to turn it off.

When typing in a text box, it’s going to not bring up the “find function”, however when not in a text box, hitting certain keys bring up the find function. This is, I think (based on how I found this out) because in various legacy programs, those various keys brought up search features. ”/” is how I discovered it when I accidentally typed it meaning to search for something.
Also apostrophe searches only for links, and forward slash searches all text. The big difference between Ctrl-F and quickfinds are that the quickfind bar disappears on its own.
This will apparently let you change which keys does this (as well as turn it off entirely): http://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/index-en.html#searchkey
That is actually the problem – it is bringing up the find function while I am typing in a text box – it happened when writing an email and when writing a fluther question.
Yeek! Shouldn’t be doing it in a search box. What version of FF are you running?
Very odd—I am as well an ’ has never been a problem…
One bugreport I was reading researching the answer did say that the keys do occassionally misbehave. Try that plugin (it’s near the bottom) and see if they’ll fix it.
Hey! I have the same problem with this happening, even though I’m running the most current version of Firefox. It’s insanely annoying. I can’t get out of it . . . I’m gonna try jamesgecko’s solution as well.
Sometimes the backspace key will take me back to the page I was previously viewing, instead of erasing the character to the left of my cursor.
Annoying.
