Which is worse for your hand--mouse or trackpad?
In one day I have never used a computer as much as I did yesterday. I basically doubled my usual amount of time because I was working on a project on AVID.
I wake up this morning and my right hand was so sore! I feel a pain when I open and close my hand, and a definite pain when I move my clicking finger up and down. Obviously this isn’t a major pain, it’s just annoying.
Today I have no class, so I’m going to try to recuperate from this injury (lol). Should I be using trackpad or mouse. Of course use neither is always an option, but what am I suppose to do, read a book? lol4rl I know
I’m for sure that there are people who’s jobs require them to be on a computer more than I was yesterday; how do they do it?

if you used your mouse yesterday i would suggest using your trackpad today and try not to use your “clicking finger.” its just like ‘i walk a mile every day but yesterday i walked 5 and now i’m sore’ kinda thing. if you work up to it, you’ll be fine.
Use a trackball mouse. It takes a while to get used to, but it removes almost all chance of carpal tunnel.
I suggest a logitech trackmaster.
I use FCP with a wacom tablet and pen every day, no complaints so far.
The trackpad will be worse for your hand, but then again, if heavy use of your mouse is hurting you, that will too.
What kind of mouse is it?
I recommend the Logitech MX revolution if you’re after a more ergonomic mouse
Just be kind, take frequent hand stretching breaks and it honestly will be fine. I did that all the time after I went on raids all night in WoW. Use the mouse, it’s better for your hand, you don’t need a new one unless it’s a persistent problem. You just stressed it.
I hate trackballs, and two years ago your situation happened to me. A friend who used Macs had pointed out almost a decade before that the stylus and graphics pad were superior, so I went and bought one.
She was right. It’s amazing, and much more natural to me — but then I grew up writing, not texting or typing or mousing.
This sounds crazy, but the problem is most likely in your neck, and an adjustment will fix it quick….been there done that—it is a pinched nerve in the neck my friend.
@Mizuki: I gather you’ve never strained your wrist, when you do that the pain is in your hand and wrist – especially when flexing them. Your neck being out of whack would first cause pain in your shoulder and arm.
