RSS feeds: automatic updates?

Asked by Snoopy (5803points) January 29th, 2009

In Vista, RSS feeds won’t update automatically.

I can manually update by hitting F5

I have found this blog, but can’t decipher the fix.

Help!

Those commands in the funny font need to be run from a command line.

So the first step would be to run sc queryex schedule in a command prompt.

I’m not sure how to get to the command prompt in Vista. Maybe clicking on Start—> Run and then typing in cmd and hitting enter would work. The computer I have with Vista on it is in a room with sleeping twins and I don’t want to wake them to check.

@johnpowell When I do that is says ”‘SC’ is not recognized as an internal or external command…..”

I have found the task scheduler independent of this action and it appears to be running….

So I have progressed to step #2 in the above link. I cannot even find anywhere to even look for the RSS Download engine….?

@johnpowell I think I figured it out…..my updates were (by default) scheduled for 1x/day. I just set up the feeds last night, so no updates yet.

I changed the check for updates every to 15 minutes…it seems to have solved the problem.

Thanks for you help :)

Ugh. That actually didn’t work. It is still not updating automatically.

Why is something seemingly so simple, so hard?

I think I have it fixed. Finally.
