Dream analysis time! I was kissed by a camel!

Asked by emilyrose (2277points) January 29th, 2009

I had a very strange dream last night (this morning actually). A lot of strange things were in the dream and I can’t remember all of it. One thing I remember is that I was in a hotel. I also was kissed by a camel! The camel came up to me and kissed my neck. I think I remember being tickled by it. I was expecting it and I remember the camel approaching me, but then I wanted to get away because it tickled, and well, it’s just strange to be kissed by a camel! What on earth could this mean? I looked up one of those new-agey sites about power animals and it said that camel energy is creativity, self-sufficiency, and healing. One of my friends thinks that may be what I am looking for in a partner since the camel kissed me.

I looked up “hump” in my dream dictionary, and it didn’t say anything about creativity.

Kissing- oral fixation
Camel – cigarettes

Are you considering quitting smoking, or have you recently?

a non-educated guess

fireside's avatar

Maybe you subconsciously want to smoke a cigarette?

eh, you beat me to it!

emilyrose's avatar

oh come on guys, you can do better than that! I really dislike cigarettes, but yes, in my hippie days camel lights were my cigarette of choice.

It means that you want to and should travel outside North America. The kiss was a gentle nudge in a direction.

The tickle is simple enough to interpret. If you travel you won’t ever come back. (but that is a good thing)

edit :: the above is complete bullshit.

The kiss of a camel is saying that this is your year. It is a kiss of prosperity. The hotel is a sign of the future and uncertainty. The camel is letting you know that for the year 2009 you should be prosperous.

I must go now my own camel awaits.

EmpressPixie's avatar

It means you need a new sweater.

It wasn’t actually a camel, it was an alpaca. Your subconscious is trying to tell you that it’s a very cold winter and you need a new sweater. You’ll be tickled pink by your new sweater and love it! The kiss symbolizes how much you will love your sweater.

camel? sounds u like u have a weird hidden fetish.

Bluefreedom's avatar

Could you have been a Bedouin in a former life and are now having flashbacks about it?

By the way, was the kiss from the camel an innocent peck or a full on smooch fest like this one? Just wondering.

emilyrose's avatar

@Bluefreedom—awesome photo! Um, it was a kiss on my neck, not the lips!!

Bluefreedom's avatar

@emilyrose. I’m such a dunce. I totally overlooked where you mentioned that in your question’s details. Sorry!

I don’t have any pictures of a camel giving a hickey so you’re just going to have to use your imagination on that one. ;o)

When you think “camel” or “kiss” or “neck” off the top of your head, what associations do you make? That could give you a clue. In dreams, your unconscious gives you symbols that you alone would understand based on such associations. Also, if you can, recall the whole “scene,” like what you were wearing or where you and the camel were in the hotel (Your room? The lobby? By the pool?), and so on, those can give you more clues based on your associations for those areas.

Personally, when I think camels, I think spitting, thanks to watching a camel do that to some poor chappie on Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom as a kid. Eww. But that’s me.

So there’s this part of you that you think is kind of different, maybe weird, maybe of camel traits. This part of you is trying to connect with the rest of you, in a diffident matter. It truly loves you, but you keep on running from it, because you think it’s weird.

Have you been thinking about doing something that is pretty differnt from what you usually do, lately? Or in the past? Has that idea re-emerged? Like maybe taking a trip or vacation or going on a professional trip to a foreign destination, but that you are conflicted about?

Or, alternatively, camels are kind of endurance creatures. Is there a part of you that can hang in for the long haul, but you keep running away from it because, I don’t know, you don’t think you can face the long haul?

A camel or a camel toe?

marinelife's avatar

This site had a different interpretation of the camel symbol.

Camel

To see a camel in your dream, denotes that you need to be more conservative; you are carrying too many problems on your shoulders. You tend to hold on and cling on to your emotions instead of expressing and releasing them. You need to learn to forgive and forget. Alternatively, it represents you potential for handling big problems, responsibilities, and burdens.”

jonsblond's avatar

@PupnTaco I was wondering who would throw out the toe

PupnTaco's avatar

I’m never below a cheap giggle

emilyrose's avatar

Man how did I know camel toe would come up? Well one thing I didn’t say was that I went on a date last night—so if we go with the energetic new agey camel thing it might be about this man I just met…. but the travel ideas that daloon brought up are also ever- present and were a large part of our conversation last night. I have a huge travel bug right now and I am feeling really bored and want to get away!

marinelife's avatar

@emilyrose Wishing you a caravan soon in your future!

wundayatta's avatar

Man, I should open a palm reading shop, or something.

“Palms, tealeaves and dreams,” I could call it.

I was thinking of putting monkey entrails in there too, but then I thought of the meat eating discussion and decided to put that on the back burner—oops, no, I’m not making monkey soup!

Trustinglife's avatar

@emilyrose I’m curious about your associations and feelings about your neck. And about hotels. And about the guy you had a date with. Or, have you milked what you wanted to from this dream?

emilyrose's avatar

@Trustinglife—okay—my neck—well I definitely like having my neck kissed. I typically don’t like having my neck constricted with buttoning tops up all the way, I prefer scoopy or v-neck shirts to ones that cover me up more…but at the same time I have gotten into wearing sweaters that cover my neck and scarves.. I guess I like it loose : )
Hotels—well i stayed in a hotel last week for work so maybe that’s where it came in? I like staying in hotels. And the dude—well I don’t have a super strong impression of him yet as this was a first date. We did talk a lot and it’s possible that he resembles the description of camel energy. ps i was hoping you would have some insight : )

The Herder Symbol Dictionary says the camel is “a symbol in North Africa of sobriety, obstinancy, and pride. It is sometimes mentioned in the Old Testament as an unclean animal. As a beast of burden, it symbolizes modesty and obedience in Christian writings and art; however, it is also a symbol of anger, lethargy, and narrow-mindedness.”

Trustinglife's avatar

@emilyrose Thanks for answering my questions! And a call for insight – wow! I’ll take you up on that.

If this were my dream, I would wonder what such an exotic and different animal is doing in it. I would wonder if my unconscious is telling me to get out and do something exotic – especially since you have a huge travel bug right now (nice one, Daloon!). I would wonder if a strange animal kissing my neck was related to the possibility of this new, strange man kissing my neck – that makes the most sense to me. You didn’t really say how you felt about him, but it seemed to be a mixed vibe. And that’s what I heard in the dream as well – being expectant for the kiss, and then shying away from it when it tickled.

If I were you, I’d dialogue with the camel itself, in your imagination:

Emily: Do you have a message for me in my life right now?
Camel: Yes, thanks for asking! I came to you because…

And then write it out, as if you were a playwright, and the camel was somehow speaking through you. That’s how I do my dreamwork. Which I’ve been really getting into lately. I’m not sure I said anything that was really new, but I’d curious to hear if any of that resonates.

Knotmyday's avatar

Camel, eh?
Considering you may be linking the dream to someone you dated- have you considered the symbolism of the “hump?” Which then begs the question- Was it a dromedary or a Bactrian camel? one hump or two

Trustinglife's avatar

Was the hump a significant feature in what you remember?

aprilsimnel's avatar

I was going to make a really bad Fergie joke here, but I stopped myself!

emilyrose's avatar

no i dont remember the hump at all… in fact I think there was a moment where the camel was a giraffe…what I remember were the lips actually : ) I was also looking at a national geographic photo of horses yesterday so may explain a bit why animals showed up…
Also mixed vibe tends to be my m.o. with men….. it’s kind of rare when I just want to go for it. And when this happens I am so enthusiastic that it freaks the men out!

Trustinglife's avatar

So, what are you taking away from tapping the collective? Anything stick?

emilyrose's avatar

ya know, I’m really not sure! Kind of wondering what I might dream tonight! I like the conversation idea though…

jonsblond's avatar

I’m getting a vibe from the whole kissing on the neck and the giraffe. I love being kissed on the neck. I’m talking huge turn on. It makes me wonder if you just might have really strong feelings for this new guy in your life but for some reason, you are holding back.

Joe Camel of Camel cigarettes is drawn to resemble a penis. If you doubt this, check out the link. The advertising geniuses at Camel are using sex to sell their product.

Whether or not this association is meaningful to you, your dream represents fear of intimacy. As others have mentioned, the neck is a very intimate part of your body. The camel is intruding into your very personal space and you want to escape.

Perhaps one of your parents was very intrusive, and as a child you had problems protecting yourself from their intrusions. Or perhaps you are afraid of being close in a romantic way.

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

I thought I was the only one that saw the penis in Joe Camel’s face. Whew, that’s a relief.
