How long do you frustrate over lunch left at home?

Asked by charliecompany34 (7813points) January 29th, 2009

twice in the last two weeks, i’ve forgotten well-prepared lunches because, for one, i made it specially the night before and two, it happened to be a really great lunch. hey, times be hard! who really can afford take-out lunch anyway?

about 3 miles away from home, i discover i’ve forgotten it, but, for time sake, can’t turn around. and then i drive all the way to work thinking of it—how good it was gonna be and that i had SAVED MONEY.

last week i left a turkey meatloaf sandwich. this week i left broiled chicken breasts with roasted peppers. so mad, i was!

i was mad at myself for at least 5 hours.

3 miles away = 15 minutes max driving round-trip. Five hours angry?

actually, now that i think about it, i think what the real question is, what did you prepare the night before that you looked forward to eating the next day. that’s frustrating too.

5 hours does seem a tad bit much, but hey, it was chicken breast with roasted peppers.

To console yourself, you could always eat the forgotten lunch for dinner when you get home. That’s what I do.

@PupnTaco congrats on busting the 10 mark bro!.

turns out when i am on the interstate in my personal car, turning around on the median “authorized” u-turn, which i could easily do in my squad cruiser, ain’t so easy.

I had made a bona fide lasagna Bolognese. Deeee-licious! The sauce had taken hours to make in the authentic fashion (from Mario Batali’s recipe!) and there was only a little left over from the dinner that I’d made it for.

Not only did I forget it in the fridge, but when I got home, I’d discovered that my roommate had eaten it. I wasn’t angry at leaving the lunch at home so much as I was livid that he didn’t even bother to find out whose food it was and just ate it!

Here, @PupnTaco, have a virtual lasagna Bolognese for making your 10K.

Guess what? You’re not perfect.

Five hours stewing is five hours you could have spent planning a system to avoid forgetting. Like a pad of post-it notes. You write “Lunch?” on one and stick it on the steering wheel when you put the car away for the night.

Five hours from your day is lost creative time, dream time, enjoy life time.

Let me ask: Would you have been furious for five hours if a friend who was supposed to be bringing the lunch forgot it?

You are worth forgiving too.

Bon appetito.

@Marina welcome back boo! you are missed. and yes, i apply those simple tenets eventually. may have exaggerated on the frustration window, but yes, i eventually forgive myself. maybe because i tour to work when it’s early and still dark outside i guess. when the light comes, i eat some oatmeal and the frustration is dashed.

@cc34 Missed you too. Your questions often surprise me, which I like. And for all my blathering above, I have felt irate when a special meal I planned didn’t happen. Foodies forever!

Here’s some more. Well deserved.
